1990’s Radio Retrospective - Michael Bermingham
Stations featured:
1990 Shannonside FM, Roscommon Town, County Roscommon
1991 KLAS Radio, Aughnacloy, County Tyrone
1996 ABC Radio, Dublin, County Dublin
1997 Shannonside FM, Minard House, Sligo Road, Longford, County Longford
Aliases used: Michael Barry, Michael BHX and my own Michael Bermingham.
Age Range: 22 to 31.
Change was afoot through the 90's where I found myself back on pirate radio for a time. Cutbacks on Shannonside FM meant I along with others were axed in 1990 due to financial constraints. So, I ended up in Monaghan broadcasting just across the border. Later in the decade I was working in Dublin and did some broadcasting for another pirate ABC radio, finally settling in Longford and rejoining Shannonside which by then had grown to a two station network that included Northern Sound FM.
This might be described as a compilation of my ‘best bits’ from the decade thus serving as a retrospective of those years.
