I put together a full companion page for the Tomy Sports Set line with high resolution photos, packaging scans, manuals, gameplay details, and additional research on these strange little wind up games. Definitely check it out because there’s a lot there that I couldn’t fit into the video.

In this video we’ll take a deep look at Homerun Homer, my favorite game in the entire Tomy Sports Set line. Released in 1981 as part of the second generation of games, this one feels much closer to a real competitive tabletop game than most of the earlier releases. One player pitches while the batter physically spins a turntable beneath home plate to control where the ball gets hit.

We’ll go through the mechanics, the field layout, the original rules, the packaging, and why this game still feels surprisingly skill based despite the complete unpredictability of the wind up figures. Out of all seven releases, this is the one I keep coming back to.
