I put together a full companion page for the Tomy Sports Set line with high resolution photos, packaging scans, manuals, gameplay details, and additional research on these strange little wind up games. Definitely check it out because there’s a lot there that I couldn’t fit into the video.
In this video we’ll take a deep look at Bumbling Boxing, one of the original 1980 Tomy Sports Set releases. Two little wind up boxers enter the ring and immediately start flailing around trying to knock each other over. The whole game feels perfectly matched to the Rocky era with exaggerated fighters, tiny cardboard crowds, and absolutely no dignity once the match starts.
We’ll go through how the game works, the adjustable arm mechanics, the original packaging, and why Tomy clearly understood that half the fun came from watching these poor little fighters completely lose control of the situation.
