This edition of NBC Nightly News from February 22, 1979 contains something rather rare and unique for MST3K fans. The final segment in the program (at 24:09) is about the group of students, described as clowns, recently elected to student government at the University of Wisconsin. Their president is none other than future MST3K producer and actor, Jim Mallon, who is briefly seen and heard during this piece.
Under Jim Mallon, the student government erected a partial, paper mache Statue of Liberty on a frozen lake (to deliver on a campaign) promise, gave out 1-cent tuition refunds to students, and bought themselves $500 worth of toys for their office.
Also of some interest in this program is the Segment 3 feature on the beginning of TV coverage of the House of Representatives and the first inklings of C-Span.
