Here we have a 1976 Gottlieb Volley pinball machine in action. This is certainly one of the best electromechanical pinball machines out there from a time when Gottlieb was firing on all cylinders and kicking out amazing titles like Abra Ca Dabra, El Dorado, Quick Draw, Sure Shot, Royal Flush, Jacks Open and more. It seems that Gottlieb could do no wrong in the years between 1975 and 1977 as most of their games from this period have become iconic and sought after by players and collectors.
Volley is a great machine for shooting drop targets where a decent shot often follows a diamond path and takes out one target on each of the three banks. And, being a single-player machine, the player has all 5 balls in which to achieve the objective of hitting the three lanes at the top of the playfield to light the corresponding target bank for 5k points per target. THEN hitting all of the targets down resets the three banks and lights the top lanes alternately for special. It doesn't get much better, folks. This is just a straight-ahead great game that is easy to understand and difficult to master.
Volley was designed by the great Ed Krynski with artwork by the also great Gordon Morison. The dream team!
