BBC Archive | 1964: Living the STEAM DREAM on Regent's Canal | Tonight | Retro Transport | BBC Archive @BBCArchive | Uploaded August 2024 | Updated October 2024, 10 hours ago.
'Victoria' is the realisation of a dream for two steam fanatics - their own beautiful little boat steaming up and down Regent's Canal in London.
Michael Gilbert and William Davis put Victoria together themselves from the hull of an old river launch, an 1898 steam engine and a boiler made by Merryweathers during World War Two.
Macdonald Hastings was enchanted and managed to jump on board. He even got to toot the whistle, much to his delight.
Clip taken from Tonight, originally broadcast on BBC One, Tuesday 25 August, 1964.
