The 1962 1000km Nürburgring was a major endurance sports car race held on May 27, 1962. It was won by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien in a Ferrari 246 SP.
The race was the fourth round of the International Championship for GT Manufacturers and took place on the challenging 14.173-mile (22.835 km) Nordschleife circuit in Germany.
The event featured a dramatic start with a wet track that initially favored the lighter Lotus 23 driven by Jim Clark. Clark dominated the early laps, building a significant lead before mechanical issues (a loose exhaust filling the cockpit with fumes, and a crash) forced his retirement. As the track dried, the Scuderia Ferrari works team took control.
