My late father (Patrick Bermingham) had a brother Jimmy who was the owner of a home movie camera. The following 9 films were shot by him between 1960/61.
I had the reels transferred on to video in 1989 at a then cost of £78.
In 2007, I transferred that video to a DVD myself for €2. There were no breaks in continuity with all sequences back to back.
Now in 2016, I have had the chance to lay down the DVD to P.C and edit the individual sequences as they appear to have been filmed.
• A brief glimpse of O’Connell street with a floral barrier separating each side of the street looking toward Nelsons Column.
• 0.09 Patrick and Christina Bermingham astride a motorbike scooter of the era.
• 0.25 Kids playing - probably the McKeowns who were cousins of the Bermingham’s and lived in County Offaly. A brief glimpse of Mrs McKeown? And Marcella Bermingham.
• 0.44 More kids, this time in Cabra, Dublin.
• 0.57 Christina B watches Jimmy Bermingham mix cement for block building on a sunny day.
• 1.25 Marcella digging her front garden for flowers perhaps.
• 1.44 Anthony Bermingham appears and wheels a barrow for Jimmy.
• 1.49 Two suited brothers depart and get into a car.
• 1.54 A Weekend Production …Cameraman – Jimmy Bermingham…Assistant Cameramen A & P Bermingham in Kodak and Agfacolour…Produced and Directed by J Bermingham.
‘Dawn over Cabra and the last of the Congo planes disappear into the blue sky’
• 2.28 Night-time scene in Dublin showing various neon signs (in reverse)
• 2.35 St Stephens green in bloom with flower beds.
• 2.46 Anthony Bermingham stars in spoof DAZ washing powder whilst wearing a funny hat and smoking a cigar.
