Reliving those Novice days as KN3IXU. Actually, if I had this rig versus the single 6V6 on a wooden base I would have done a lot better.
The retro rig is built around a 6AG7 crystal oscillator driving a 6L6 final. It wasn't until I boosted the plate voltage to 450 volts on the 6L6 and improved the Pi Network output that I went from about 10 watts to slightly over 20 watts out. That is a 3dB boost.
Data from the Reverse Beacon Network affirms that the retro rig is pumping RF into the Ionosphere.
The frame with the 16X4 Blue LCD is the start of the companion receiver.
The girl in the bikini at the end is to accurately represent my interests in 1959. Ham Radio and Women! It was a struggle at times.
