Working x-ray setup in vanilla minecraft (SMP friendly) that circumvents the patching Mojang tried to implement to stop x-rays from working.
... not even a week and its back - shows how much people want it, eh?

Anyway - was working on minecarts in the nether and found out that blocks are not always 2-sided now, so with the glimpse at future x-raying I took a bit of my time to get a working version that you see before you.
For anyone wondering, I started off with minecarts, went on to ender pearls, and finally to the half-slab jump setup.
Technical information:
- all textures in the game are typically one sided to be efficient - after all why draw something no one will see? The X-ray setups take advantage of that by pushing you into a block from within which you are on the 'wrong side' of the texture/plane.
- To stop people from abusing this, any time a block is updated the game checks if a player is inside the block (which normally shouldnt happen of course...). If a player is inside, then the textures of that block (and that block only) are made to be 2-sided. Otherwise the textures are made 1-sided again.
- This means that if you can get inside a block without causing it to update, then you will be inside the block while it is still 1-sided (provided it wasnt turned 2-sided before); meaning that you will be able to see around - XRAY!
.
Hope that explains things,
Dan.
