17K resolution? No proxies? No problem.
I reached out to cinematographer Dylan Rucker and got permission to use some of his stunning 17K footage for this test, shot on a @BlackmagicDesignOfficial URSA Cine 17K 65.
Dylan was the Director of Photography for the “Afterlife” music video by @Evanescence, and he’s known for his work on music videos, commercials, and narrative projects.
In just 78 seconds, I exported a 20-second clip at 24 fps in full 17K resolution (17,520 × 8,040).
Everything was pushed to maximum quality in DaVinci Resolve Studio, running on NVIDIA's RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell GPU (96GB VRAM, 600W Workstation Edition) inside a Dell Pro Max Tower T2, and it handled it without breaking a sweat.
Settings:
• 17k footage.
• 17k timeline.
• Timeline playback resolution: Full.
• Decode quality: Full Res Premium.
• Render cache: None.
• Proxies: None.
Color grading, effects, full 17K export. All done.
The results?
Blazing fast render times. Peak VRAM usage hit 62GB, still leaving 30GB free for other tasks that I could run in parallel.
