A relatively drama free day compared to the last few days. We started the day with 5 chicks and thankfully ended the day with 5 chicks. No magpies took an unwelcome interest in the box. Our male is getting even more assertive. He really wants to feed the chicks himself and has been giving some not so subtle hints to the female that she should move out of the way. This is a little different from the timid male we first met when he was getting thrown out of the box everyday by the female just a few weeks ago.
The male seems to be feeding the chicks with small bits of food very often and he is the caterpillar finder. The female serves food less often but she is the queen of finding big flies and spiders.
Our next milestone should be on Tuesday or Wednesday when we expect the chicks eyes to start opening.
