In March of 2023, we embarked on a winter adventure to Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, reuniting with our childhood friend Lew for an epic backcountry snowmobile expedition. Years of dreaming and talking about this trip finally materialized as we set out on an ambitious quest: a 160-kilometer sled ride to see the Western Brook Pond Gorge from its summit.
As a snowstorm starts creeping into the forecast and surprise obstacles pop up, we luck out with a rare bluebird day to chase after our big goal. But, there’s a twist—the snow conditions are worse than expected, throwing us unforeseen challenges. Our gear gets pushed to the max, and our determination faces the ultimate test.
