Educators worldwide have enjoyed success with the renowned 16 Habits of Mind, created 30 years ago by Dr. Art Costa and Dr. Bena Kallick of the Global Institute for Habits of Mind.

The 16 Habits of Mind demonstrate learning skills that have been proven to aid students with emotional regulation, resulting in their ability to become familiar with utilizing mental health skills in their everyday life.

When children learn to think about their thinking, they develop awareness, reflection, and a deeper understanding of how they learn best. Pausing to examine their own thoughts helps them make connections, adjust strategies, and approach challenges with clarity. Encouraging this skill doesn’t just strengthen learning—it fosters independence, insight, and the ability to grow as thoughtful, lifelong learners.
