Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan has confirmed that 158 people have been removed from the State for having criminal convictions up to the end of July this year.

That figure is just shy of the total number of criminals removed between 2021 and 2024 combined, when the yearly average of removals was 43.

An Garda Síochána confirmed that 42 sex offenders have been removed so far this year.

The removals, under Operation Moonridge, target non-nationals who have been convicted of serious sexual crimes and have no lawful basis to remain in the country.
