Replacing the factory linear power supply with a modern switching power supply. This all started when I stole the power supply from one of my non-working 1541 drives to convert a European 220V 1551 drive to US power. I did the PSU swap in that 1541 to bring it back to life, then wanted to document it in a video so I upgraded the PSU in the 1541 you see in this video.

I didn't come up with this idea. Quite a few others have already done the same. I got technical assistance from:
