End of July 2021 I have received my Mighty Keshig.
Since then I have been in need for a mongol style quiver ☺️
Since I have seen the photos of the cave grave in Cagaan Chad, which contained bow, quiver and much more findings beside the mummy, I wanted to create such a quiver.
As one could expect, the original is not fully existing anymore. A significant piece has remained 500-600 years, only the area, that has contained the fixings, is gone with the wind… The archeologists have found a quiver hook, which guides me a bit.
Nevertheless I needed to guess the final shape.
A drawing of a 13th century archer on a horse shows a quiver with relatively straight lines and so I have decided to create my quiver likewise.
Maybe the Cagaan Chad quiver had a second fixing, made of leather. For my quiver I have created another hook styled fixing.
The size and applications are built according to the original, color wise I kept the black leather for the applications and bright thread. The original colors of the main leather cannot be seen anymore.
I have deviated regarding the metal used: the original metal parts have been made of iron, I have used brass and burnished the pieces.
The quiver hook works, if you tighten the belt as much as possible.
To prevent the arrows from falling out of the quiver, I have added an inlay made of 1mm thick felt, which is too soft.
Recommendations for a better felt are most welcome!
The belt has a special buckle, according to the findings of the grave.
The buckle has been made of brass by Jandee Design (Berlin). The belt has been made by Jandee out of a special treated leather, I did the stitching.
