On April 8, 1969, thirteen-year-old April Fabb left her home in rural Norfolk on a short bicycle ride to her sister’s house. She never arrived.
Minutes later, her blue-and-white bicycle was found lying in a field beside a quiet country road — undamaged, with her belongings still inside the saddlebag. There were no signs of an accident, no witnesses, and no explanation. April had vanished in broad daylight.
What followed was one of the largest missing-person investigations Norfolk had ever seen. Hundreds of homes were searched. Thousands of statements were taken. Fields, wells, hedgerows, and waterways were combed — yet no trace of April was ever found. Over the decades, investigators explored every possibility: accident, runaway, opportunistic abduction, and even links to traveling serial offenders. Each theory raised questions. Most fell apart.
In this episode of Bad Things, we carefully retrace April’s final known movements, examine the competing explanations that have surrounded her disappearance for more than fifty years, and ask whether the simplest theory — long overshadowed by speculation — may be the closest to the truth.
