Please forgive the shorter than usual video but it's been a bit of a traumatic day here. We lost two chicks today. It was always going to be an uphill battle for the chicks which hatched almost three days after the first ones but this result wasn't expected this quickly.
The parents had been paying attention to the newer arrivals but it's more than likely they just got stuck under the other six larger chicks. Whatever happened, it's put a bit of a downer on today and the video editing elf felt that putting out a 'usual' video wasn't entirely appropriate given the situation.
Still, it's important that what happened isn't glossed over. Nature did what nature sometimes does so fingers crossed and let's hope the worst has now passed, our remaining chicks make it to the fledging stage and we don't have to make another video like this one.
