Movement doesn’t just stop when the character does. Like in real life, inertia affects how things move in animation. Understanding this is critical if you want to create studio-ready work.
In this video, we explain one of the core principles of animation: follow-through, overlap, and drag. You’ll learn why movement doesn’t stop immediately, how secondary body parts like arms and hands move together during actions like walking, what happens to soft elements when the character stops, and how hair or fabric moves even when the character doesn’t. We also look at how designers use this same principle in games, where a brief moment of anticipation before a movement gives players time to react.
