Have you ever shaved your butt with a razor and gotten all kinds of ingrown hairs, bumps, and pimples? This is precisely what happened to one of our friends who emailed me the other day. Certain areas of the body should never be shaved with a razor. Say 'no' to the razor in these areas:
Butt cheeks. I learned this the hard way. You will experience all kinds of irritations afterwards when the hair starts to grow back. It's really itchy and uncomfortable. And if you're not exfoliating these hairs, they'll get trapped, and you'll get breakouts and blemishes.
Butt crack. When shaved with a razor, it will grow back super itchy and prickly. It becomes unbearable. Hair in your butt crack reduces friction, so when you remove it, it's going against skin. It can become uncomfortable, especially during exercise.
Widow's peak. Leave this area alone. Shaving it makes it look unnatural, and when it grows back, the stubble looks terrible.
Sideburns. If you shave them off or too short, this is a big mistake. The only time you should shave them higher is a skin fade. You need sideburns to frame your face and give depth and dimension. They give your hairstyle more structure.
Underneath the jaw or chin. This is the biggest mistake I see with beards. Do not shave underneath the jaw. Leave the hair to camouflage a weak jaw and enhance the appearance of your beard.
Eyebrows. Never shave your eyebrows with a razor, as the hair will grow back with a cross-section, giving you a 5 o'clock shadow on your brows. Pluck the hair instead to be less noticeable. Also, avoid shaving above your brows, as it's necessary for maintaining the natural shape of your eyebrows.
Bush. Use a trimmer instead of a razor. Often, the hair becomes trapped underneath the skin, causing razor burns, bumps, and ingrown hairs, which is not sexy.
Stomach. Don't shave it or your happy trail. Your pants will rub against it, irritating the area and creating a risk of ingrown hairs. Use a trimmer and take the hair down.
Upper back. That patch of hair above your butt crack should not be shaved. Trim it instead.
Shoulders. Your shoulders come into contact with your shirt all day, and a significant amount of oil is produced on your shoulders. If you shave, you'll get ingrown hairs.
Hamstrings. I never shave them. I use a trimmer to take it super short. I do shave my thighs, however.
Armpits. I use a trimmer, not a razor. I trim it about once a month, then let it grow back, and then cut it again. I prefer not to have super-bald underarms because of the friction and discomfort they cause.
