Arvid Loewen is an ultramarathon cyclist, philanthropist, and former business executive. Born in Paraguay and immigrating to Canada as a teenager, he played semi-professional soccer as a goalkeeper before rising to senior management at Palliser Furniture. Around age 49 he left that career to focus full-time on fundraising for Mully Children’s Family (a Kenyan street-children rescue mission) through extreme cycling. He is a Guinness World Record holder (fastest trans-Canada bicycle crossing in 2011 and farthest distance cycled in one month in 2020), a Race Across America finisher (including an age-category win), has logged roughly 350,000 km over two decades while raising more than $12 million for the charity, received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and co-authored the book When Quitting Is Not an Option.
