2021 is a remarkable year for rockfall protection: India's first 10,000 kJ rockfall barrier - the strongest in the world (youtu.be/Ix_DGYT2M3I?t=123) - is installed. This and other Geobrugg barriers will protect a highway in this famous tourist area:

Malchej Ghat is a mountain pass nestled in the lofty rugged hills of the Western Ghat range in the Thane district of Maharashtra, India. The National Highway 222 is connecting the states of Maharashtra and Telangana passes Malchey Ghat. It is situated in the Pune district, 160 Km from Mumbai and 130 km from Pune.

The area is notorious for landslides during monsoons. Because of frequent rockfalls, the state highway is often closed for several days which severely affects the day-to-day life of the nearby cities. During a rockfall event in 2013, boulders weighing around 5 tons rolled down the slope and damaged vehicles and injured people a the temple area.

Congratulations to this important protective measure to the Public Works Department of the @National Highway Division, Thane. And to the installer @M/s Pioneer Foundation Engineers Pvt. Ltd.
