In 2016, after travelling to Estonia for a gig with the TIKS collective I did a mixtape of all the great records I found on my trip. Couple years later, I went to Bulgaria for a gig with Love & Happiness and found more records, including several that I had found in Estonia. As the 2016 mixtape is long gone from Soundcloud, I thought I'd do a new one - this time tempo mixed - using the records from both travels. It's music mostly from the eastern bloc but not exclusively, just great tunes I found there. Probably nothing mega rare, but lots of great music I found myself returning to regularly. Enjoy!

Welcome to the third instalment of the collaboration between THE REFLEX’ DISCOLIDAYS label and BECAUSE MUSIC in Paris, remixing gems from the ZAGORA catalogue.
Created in 1975 by producer Daniel Vangarde (father of Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter), the Zagora label created some of the most exciting disco music in France, ranging from cult underground artists Who’s Who and Starbow, to massive international hits by the Gibson Brothers, la Compagnie Créole and Black Blood.
On this 180g 12’’, we’ve got two remixes by The Reflex from Daniel Vangarde’s own project WHO’S WHO which released a lone LP in 1979 featuring the cult cosmic-disco ‘Hypnodance’ and the Euro disco ‘Palace Palace’, both remixed here for the first time from the original multitracks, whose tapes were specifically transferred for the occasion.
Discovered on the ‘Hypnodance’ tapes were an unreleased, Ennio Morricone-esque bridge which can now be heard in its full glory (alongside a drum machine and unheard vocals) bringing a new sense of mystery to this already cult favourite.
The ‘Palace Palace’ revision puts to the fore a killer bassline, psychedelic vocoders and crazy synths for a high-energy Euro disco vibe made popular by artists like Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone.
Released on 180g vinyl with custom artwork on card sleeve designed by AL KENT / MILLION DOLLAR DISCO.

The release features two revisions by The Reflex of tunes from disco legend D.C. LaRue : the ‘O Ba Ba’ mix - that came out digitally a few months ago that has been rinsed by @craigcharlesfunkandsoul ob @bbc6music and @dimitrifromparisofficial on his @defected_basement mix amongst others, and ‘Overture’ which is exclusive to the vinyl (digital next year), previously only ever remixed by @folamour_fhuo for @thezrecords a few years back. True to fashion, The Reflex delivers a totally different take, making the most of the incredibly rich musical elements from D.C. LaRue’s original which featured the cream of session musicians jamming disco style in 1976!
