The MPI for Intelligent Systems emerged 10 years ago from the MPI for Metals Research, which was founded in 1921. We are taking the double anniversary as an opportunity to show the exciting history of both institutes in a film. The social and political changes that led to the collapse of the Weimar Republic, the seizure of power by the National Socialists and World War II, the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, the German economic miracle and an increasingly technological and digital world that can no longer do without artificial intelligent systems – all this is reflected in our history. As different as the research conditions have been, it has always been about basic research at the highest international level – for over 100 years.
