10. PARAGON 2000—a Celebration for orchestra (2000) 6:04

Paragon 2000 was composed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Paragon Ensemble of Scotland. To mark the event, the piece integrates “Happy Birthday” tunes from different countries. Also heard toward the end are echoes from “Flower of Scotland.” The
general character of the piece is first of a slow processional march, later allowing more playful and also short meditative moments. As the marching character returns, it alludes to “Proud Edward’s army” mentioned in the Scottish song, also referring to everyone stepping into the new millennium.
