Georgia O'Keeffe was a pioneer of American modern art in the 20th century. She led a very long and eventful life which this art history tutorial covers. Born in Wisconsin, she married the photographer Alfred Stieglitz and lived for a time in New York. It was around this time Georgia O'Keeffe started painting close-up paintings of flowers for which she would become famous. But it was New Mexico, in Abiquiu, where her work developed. Here she painted the motifs of the desert and the landscape around her. Georgia O'Keeffe received many accolades for her work, but dismissed being called a great female artist, she simply said she was a great artist.
