The evolution ramped up FAST with the return of Dodge Ram to the Craftsman Truck Series in 1995 and then Winston Cup in 2001 with Evernham as the factory operation. Dale Earnhardt Incs Secret Weapon of Restrictor Plate Domination: The Wind Tunnel Engine Stapleton42 2025-06-13 | After Dale Earnhardt was killed in 2001, Dale Earnhardt Inc began doing their own R&D testing internally with extreme creativity. Aaron Brown used to work for the R&D program at Dale Earnhardt Inc and managed to reclaim a super unique of early 2000s NASCAR history that he helped create over 20 years ago. This "Wind Tunnel Engine" is powered by a massive electric motor and an F1r ProCharger supercharger. Specially built to draw air through a custom made airflow measurement apparatus for testing cowl pressure and airflow efficiency into the engine during wind tunnel testing. Dale Earnhardt Inc won a TON of restrictor plate races at Daytona and Talladega between 2001 and 2006 and super creative high tech devices such as this one here are a large reason why Dale jr and Michael Waltrip ran so well at the superspeedways. The team was mostly comprised of former Stavola Brothers Racing crew who worked on Bobby's car over there. Jimmy Fennig (who later became known for winning with Mark Martin and Kurt Busch at Roush) became crew chief of the team. Jimmy's brother Jeffrey Fennig left his job at Jerry Gunderman's ASA team in Milwaukee and came to work for the team as a fabricator. The team had drivers such as Hut Stricklin, Jimmy Spencer, Mike Alexander, and Derrike Cope before closing its doors in 1996 due to lack of sponsorship. Today the shop in Concord NC is occupied by Rev Racing, who races in the ARCA Menards and Craftsman Truck Series. It is located right behind the former Alan Kulwicki Racing building in the complex right behind Charlotte Motor Speedway. TransAm is America's oldest road racing series that, much like NASCAR, originated from lightly modified production vehicles. Where TransAm and NASCAR split in their philosophy is TransAm TA1 does NOT have a large rulebook, only basic requirements. Chicagos Abandoned Racetrack Nobody Knows About - Inside Forgotten Meadowdale Raceway Stapleton42 2025-02-06 | Today we explore the grounds of Chicago's Meadowdale Raceway, a 3.27 mile long road course built in 1958 and abandoned in 1969. Mark Donohue won the final major Trans Am event here in 1968 with the famous 67 Penske Camaro. Many other racing icons found success here such as Augie Pabst, Harry Heuer, and Fred Lorenzen to name a few. We meet with local racer AJ Henriksen and Midwest Racing Preservation Association (MIRPA) director Linda Daro to get the inside details on how this forgotten racetrack used to work back in the day. The property is now known as Raceway Woods preserve and is open to hiking with bike trails as well. Linda obtained special permission for us to explore the grounds with motorized vehicles which are otherwise not allowed. Inside Alan Kulwickis Private Trophy Room & Museum in Greenfield Wisconsin Stapleton42 2024-12-14 | Kulwicki Park in Greenfield Wisconsin is home to the Brooks Pavilion, which houses the Alan Kulwicki Trophy room and many other artifacts from Alan's home and racing career! The Pavilion is NOT open to the public (only for rented events via the Lions Club) so today we show you what is inside with one of the founding members!After the Hooters plane crash on April 1, 1993 the efforts began moving to create a memorial to Alan in his hometown and build a place to keep all of his trophies and memorabilia since Alan does not have any living relatives. Bob Trinastic was part of the group who made that happen and also went to Alan's house to retrieve the artifacts donated by his father and heir Gerald Kulwicki. Bob shows us exclusive photos he took inside Alan's house that shows the exact condition of how the house was left after the plane crash. Alan had no trophy room or anything on display inside his home, it was all stuffed into a small room beside his garage with sheets over the trophies. Larry Pollards Abandoned Go Kart Track & Historic NASCAR Busch Series Collection Stapleton42 2024-11-02 | Behind the former Harry Gant Steakhouse in Taylorsville NC is Larry Pollard's LP Gear shop and this epic go kart track covered in kudzu. Larry grew up racing on Canada's west coast before moving to NC in 1981 to work for Richard Childress, eventually having his own Busch Grand National driving career after a stint as Richard Petty's crew chief. Larry is the first Canadian to win a BGN series race and found himself in the Skoal Bandit 7 car. In 1988 he suffered a near fatal accident at Dover and founded his LP Gear service and the Pollard Raceway kart track shortly after recovering. Today Larry and his son Chase Pollard are most known for their work building transmissions and rear ends for short track racing. Surprising Mark Martin With Lost Trophy! Inside 1980s Wisconsin Race Shop Shared With Alan Kulwicki Stapleton42 2024-09-21 | Before Mark Martin made his rise to NASCAR he raced in the ASA series for Jerry Gunderman's All Star Racing team in Franklin Wisconsin. Originally founded in 1983 for Bobby Allison's part time ASA schedule with Jimmy and Jeffrey Fennig doing the cars, Alan Kulwicki ran some races for the team when Bobby wasn't racing. They went full time in 1985 with Mark in the Miller Brewing sponsored car. In 1985 Mark's team was on one side of the shop and Alan Kulwicki had the other. Only a thin wall separated the Martin/Fennig brothers team from Alan's independent operation and there was some competitive tension between the two future hall of fame racers. The current owner of the building, Rob Christiansen, saved a handful of busted up trophies from the dumpster when he bought the building from Jerry Gunderman many years ago. He saved them not knowing what they were... until today! One of them was won by Mark in 1985 and he only had one ASA trophy in his own collection survive over the years. We brought the pieces with us to IROC at Lime Rock to surprise Mark with the discovery! Jimmy rented the shop to Rod Osterlund where he drove the Heinz Ketchup car before absorbing Osterlund's equipment after several missed rent payments. Barn Find 1980s NASCAR Thunderbird & Buick Saved From Time! Abandoned After Days of Thunder Filming Stapleton42 2024-06-06 | Hidden in South Carolina we recover a once race ready Bud Moore Ford Thunderbird used during Days of Thunder and a Bobby Allison Miller Buick Regal!Carlus Gann of the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Stock Car class called me up and said "Hey I bought this old Ricky Rudd Thunderbird that has been stuffed in a trailer in the woods for 30 years. Do you want to come film it?" Of course I said yes! The car was a race ready engine Bud Moore Engineering 1989 Thunderbird that was used during the filming of Days of Thunder in 89-90. During the filming it was banged up and needed new fenders. The owner took it home, repaired the damaged bodywork to primer, and shoved in a trailer. As we see it today is exactly how it was left in 1990 engine and all! Ron Hornadays Trophy Shed & Garage: NASCAR Truck Series Legend Still Building Race Cars! Stapleton42 2024-04-16 | Ron Hornaday is a four time NASCAR Truck Series Champion One of few who's name defines an entire era, becoming a member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and named one of its 75 greatest drivers. He was hired to race trucks by Dale Earnhardt in 1995 and is well known for driving the NAPA Auto Parts 16 truck. He later assisted a young Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson with their own transitions to NASCAR world. After a couple years between AJ Foyt's cup car and RCR in the Busch Series, Ron eventually went to race for Kevin's KHI truck team in the famous 33 where he found massive success and cemented his legend status. Unlike many retired drivers of the golden era, Ron never changed who he was after retirement.
