Winterbird 2017-03-08 | No, I'm not dead. I just ran into a lot of things with school and work, which has put a stop to videos currently. So while you're waiting for me to make some more videos, here's one I made awhile ago that's just been waiting to be uploaded: a tribute to my absolute favorite dragon species found in the movies, the Windgnasher! (What? I like my ice dragons!)

With a strong enough wind, the rare, hump-backed, 25-foot-long, 2,000-pound Windgnasher can pick up a scent from anywhere in the Archipelago or beyond. They have an extremely tough exterior. Some have taken multiple Hunter blows without so much as flinching. They have a wingspan of 30 feet, and despite their bulk, they can reach impressive flying speeds, which is useful when they’re tracking through the Archipelago and beyond. An interesting fact about the Windgnasher is that they have no ears. They do hear but not very well. They make up for their diminished hearing with their incredibly detailed sense of smell.

This dragon migrates north in the winter to nest, using the aurora as its guide and its blizzard power to provide cover. While it does well on fish like many other dragons, some of them are known to spend much of their time munching on barley. Others have an overwhelming penchant for cinnabar, and such Windgnasher may sometimes eat the substance in such high quantities that it is said they turn red from it.

The Windgnasher can be a champion fighter. It shoots out like a huge flame from a burning building. With bared teeth and a tail like a threshing, it throws itself into battle. However, for a clearer view of the battlefield, these sturdy dragons prefer to fire their icy blasts from the back of the pack during a fight.

It is prudent to be aware that some Windgnashers have been known to be tremendously allergic to ragweed pollen, which can result in a fit of draconic sneezing so severe it can cause mudslides. There’s even been a Windgnasher – a red one – known to have an allergy to green dragons (which many other Windgnashers are green).

Personality: The reliable Windgnasher is curious and headstrong and won’t stop until it gets what it wants. Luckily, most of the time, it just wants to say hello. However, despite a friendly nature, it is known to snarl away any Viking or dragon that wants some of its food. Chasing butterflies is an observed pastime for the Windgnasher. Some of them can be quite funny and are well known for their elaborate practical jokes. Just don’t get on this dragon’s nerves because their patience is limited and their anger is tremendous.

Distribution: Hooligan Timberland (Bellowing Heights, Isle of Berk, Outpost Island, and Berk Forest), Baneful Boglands (especially Restless Hallows), Thorstopia, Valka’s Mountain (in the Coldwind Wastes), Wild Woodland (in the Barbaric Back-Country), Blistering Badlands, Screaming Death Island, Hidden World, sometimes Askeblad Island, sometimes Greenland, formerly Haukadalr

Diet: Fish. Will also eat sagefruit and dragon nip. Some have a preference for barley and/or cinnabar.

I bet you fellow Trollhunters fans are wondering, and yes, this video was entirely inspired by the line "with the weight of the world on his shoulders" and the nickname Walter Strickler gave Jim: "Young Atlas." (We may not always like Strickler, but this really is a fitting nickname for our hero.) Here's my little tribute to our Young Atlas!

Hey, everyone. I finally have a complete HTTYD video for all of you!

So I started this video a long time ago, then left it less than halfway finished, and recently I finished it. Frankly, I'm very proud of the style here - which was heavily inspired by DFPUR, so allow me to give some credit - and by all the parallels I drew and how I made it an emotional story about one particular moment between Hiccup and Stoick, but...I have to admit, making this did bum me out a little. It's just not a happy video; it's not even an angry one, so I can't even feel pumped up. I'm kind of left drained by it, honestly. I can't guarantee my next full music video will be happy, but my next HTTYD one might be because I need a pick-me-up.

It has also come to my attention that, during my hiatus someone uploaded one of my videos as theirs, and so my signature pawprint watermark is back, and it's here to stay. Not going to deal with that, anymore.

Hopefully the fact that this video was a bit emotional and draining to make means it gives you all the feels, so enjoy, everybody!

ⒽⓉⓉⓎⒹ Rescore || Hiccup Surrenders [Harry ⚡️ Potter]

Winterbird 2017-01-29 | Yup, another HTTYD rescore using the Harry Potter score!

What? No, even after my long hiatus, I'm not going to stop making these rescores. Why would I? XD

Very simple video, so sorry about that. I might have an actual music video in the next week or two.

Anyone who's seen the Potter films knows when this score takes place, and even those who've only read the books may take a guess from two facts: it's from the last movie, and it's called "Harry Surrenders." No spoilers will be given, but let's just say that in that scene, Harry surrenders in a very similar way that Hiccup does here. Hiccup is giving in to his own compassion, his conscious telling him that this was wrong. In his scene, meanwhile, Harry is about to surrender in the greatest act of love. The music starts low and then builds to that final moment when the final choice has to be made. And right before there's no turning back, the music fades out.

Which reminds me, you might want to turn your volume up because it is pretty soft. Sorry about that.

[HTTYD] ~ Hobblegrunt (The Last Guardian)

This is a gift for a friend of mine, named OwlMoonFire on the online game School of Dragons. We've both picked out dragons from the franchise that we'd like to be "our Toothless," if you will, and her's is a Hobblegrunt named Halfeye. In honor of her and Halfeye, I decided to make a tribute to this amazing Stoker Class dragon species!

This common but elusive, 9-foot-tall, 55-foot-long, 4,500 pound dragon has two front arms for grabbing, a long neck, a long tail, a 63-foot wingspan, and a horned nose. It also has one particularly notable feature: the large frill on the back of its head. This fin allows the Hobblegrunt to sense its surroundings and react to oncoming threats or obstacles a split-second before other dragons! For this reason, even a blind Hobblegrunt can be trained to find its way around any environment. This frill can even sense subtle shifts in temperature, barometric pressure, and the emotional states of nearby dragons or humans, making them one of the most sensitive dragons. Because of this, Hobblegrunts are considered lucky dragons, in that they can predict certain things, both good and bad, a split second before they actually happen.

This dragon changes its color depending on its mood. Yellow means happy, purple means curious, and red means…RUN!

Not only is this dragon sensitive to shifts in the moods of the dragons around it, but, if properly taught, a Hobblegrunt can subtly affect those dragons’ emotional states. By altering its coloration and vibrating its crown, a Hobblegrunt can send out a soothing signal to calm irritated dragons or whip them into action during an attack! And when attacking, the Hobblegrunt will take on anything its opponent dishes out in combat and then will dish it right back! So if you find yourself surrounded by a mob of angry dragons, try to make nice with the closest Hobblegrunt by rubbing its belly. He might just help you calm down the others before it’s too late.

The Hobblegrunt has a really high firepower, a classic characteristic of the Stoker Class, and fires with great accuracy. While not particularly fast, the Hobblegrunt has the ability to accelerate within seconds…and likewise, to calm its rider down to keep you cool and focused after that burst of speed!

Personality: Gentle and intelligent, the Hobblegrunt is a sensitive survivor, more sensitive than most other Stoker Class dragons. This is a companion who knows exactly what do when you’re in a pinch.

Diet: Fish. Will also eat chicken eggs and dragon nip.

Fire Type: Ethane expectorant

Abilities: Obstacle sensory, mood control, and chameleonic color change

Battle Range: Short

Training Tips: This is an excellent dragon to train, for it is considered to be brimming with good luck! It enjoys having its belly rubbed. In battle, the Hobblegrunt is a tough defender. When attacking, you best hold the fort with this dragon. It can take a hit but can’t shoot very far. Send it into combat first.

{ROTG} Jacks Sister ~ Wintersong (Merry Christmas!)

Winterbird 2016-12-21 | I said there'd be a holiday video...never said it'd be a happy holiday video.

So I was going to do an HTTYD video with the Christmas song "Better Days," but it's not done in time. (Next year, my dears.) This is actually a video that has been sitting on my laptop since...oh, 2014? That's the year my horse Jetta died, and I think she inspired this, so that seems right.

(Also, the rest of the world has moved on from Rise of the Guardians. I never did.) XD

So we all know that it sucked that Jack didn't know his purpose for 300 years, but not remembering who he was before was probably a great kindness. Imagine watching your loved ones miss you and not being able to tell them you're still there. And it's that thought of what Jack's sister had to go through after she lost her brother that inspired this video. ...Man, that sounds morbid. I did not realize how morbid that sounded until I wrote it. Jeez...

But it's like Stoick says: when someone can't be there for the holiday, we celebrate them. We keep this moment by and by.

(Come on, guys, you know I wouldn't post something for Christmas without some form of hope. Bittersweetness at worst.)

I hope, wherever you are, you'll have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! And if you're not, the world is reborn, and a new year is coming. This is the time when we all begin again.

HTTYD ~ Used to Be (1100 subs!)

Winterbird 2016-12-19 | Hi, everyone! I'm back!

Hopefully for good. Hopefully.

So, uh...I've been at college...my dog passed away...I had a nice summer internship...I'm now estranged from my father...I got to go to Switzerland...it's been an emotional rollercoaster.

(Because of the "estrangement from my father" thing, I'm apologizing in advance for any angsty Hiccup and Stoick videos the future may bring.)

And while I was gone...wow! I not only topped 1000 subscribers, I topped 1100! Thank you so much, everyone!

Here's a video that I felt would be appropriate for my return...because I've come back to you a slightly different person, slightly more tattered and less optimistic or sure of the world, less innocent, and I can never go back. But the trick to life is not to hide in your innocence but to revel in your knowledge. There is beauty in the world all around, just as much as there is hardship and sorrow.

"Used to Be" by Arrows to Athens is a song about...change, using "changing tides" as a metaphor. If you explore, if you look for answer, you invite change, for better or worse, but to turn away the tide is to leave it.

This video has been a long time in making. It started as a vent video back in, oh, September. I made 0:11-0:42 then, and I had no intention of finishing it. However, as time went by, I started thinking I should.

The ironic thing is, I'm now posting this at a time when I'm actually leaving. I will be gone from YouTube probably for two months while I travel. Sorry to come and go like that.

So here's a little MEP part I did for Funtasticvids101's "Second Chance" MEP. You know, I know this song was written in the late '80's, but it's already got a '90's pop sound to it, the decade when all easy-listening seemed popular. '90's music is not usually my thing, particularly for editing, but you know, I always enjoy an excuse to edit with my little Jack Frost.

Winterbird 2015-04-28 | My friend showed me this trailer. In the days that followed...this happened.

So I actually have not read "The Little Prince" (I know, right? A famous book I haven't read!) and so I can't say I had any prior attachment to this story. But I did see a little children's cartoon of this story once. I have to say, the book must be better because the cartoon was boring, and the Little Prince was annoying. But I do remember the story of the Prince and the fox.

In the cartoon, the fox tells the Prince that they should be friends, but in order to be friends, they must both be tamed. "Learning to understand someone is being tamed by them," the fox said. Even though I didn't like the cartoon, I remembered that line for years.

It was these similar lines in this trailer that inspired me to make this mock trailer. I was focusing on Hiccup and Toothless. But in this movie, the Little Prince's story is framed by another story of the friendship of a workaholic girl and an old man. Hence, the focus switching to Astrid.

The Roles:

And yes, I know it's weird that Valka is the overbearing mother, and Stoick is the old, child-like storyteller. Perhaps I should have used Gobber, but Stoick had the better scenes to match. And I know Stoick's and Valka's roles really should be switched, but I couldn't change the voices, so here you are.

Since the original trailer has two different forms of animation - one for the frame story and one for the Prince's story - I did the portions of the Little Prince's (Hiccup's) story and Astrid's "imagination" scenes with a white border to differentiate.

The song in the trailer is "Salvation" by Gabrielle Aplin. iTunes gave it away as a free song about two years ago. The only reason I haven't made a HTTYD vid with it is because of this little video: youtube.com/watch?v=MB1UEZg4Zc4

HTTYD || These Times are Hard (FULL)

Yup, I finally finished it! The video that began as a vent video this past summer. Recent events still make this video relevant to me, I feel, but nothing nearly as drastic as back then. And funnily enough, the part I chose to focus on in finishing this is mainly about the loss of a loved one, which fit better with last summer, while before I focused mostly on Hiccup feeling inadequate, which is actually more akin to my current situation. Ironic.

But actually, the spur to finally finish this was seeing a vent video from my friend theNightFuryfan95. I want to dedicate this to her in part. I hope things are looking up for you, NF95, and just remember, these things, too, shall pass.

As I stated in my preview, this video is a vent video first and foremost. I did my best to make it match the situations in the Dragons universe, too, but there were times where I was merely using Hiccup to express myself. And still other times, like Astrid's voiceover at 2:44-2:48, represents both of us (a bit uncannily, actually). And while that voiceover focuses on loss and had been planned for that part since last summer, Hiccup's voiceover afterward was inspired by more recent events with feelings of reflection and inadequacy. So I got a lot of feelings squeezed into this thing, I admit. I hope they mesh well.

So here's to all those going through hard times; hold on, be strong, and just remember, they will pass.

P.S. Yes, "Somebody to Die For" is still in the works, but I've poured a lot into it, and I need a temporary break. As for "Immortals", the project was lost due to a corrupted file. I'll have to start that one over.

Ron Weasley ⚡️ Prodigal

Winterbird 2015-04-14 | Just a little thing for Ron Weasley. He's brave and loyal but insecure and sometimes hasty and bitter in his decisions. He's a friend when it counts most, but he's had moments where his insecurities get the better of him. As Rowling said, he's a slightly more "real boy." He's one of the more relatable hero characters in fiction because of this, I feel...though I have reasons for relating to all of the Golden Trio in Harry Potter, which I guess is a sign they're all pretty good characters. So here's a video about how he came back to his friends, as he always does, after his weakest moment in the series.

Admittedly I personally I feel Ron got a bit shafted in the movies, where some of his finer moments were given to other characters or traded in for comedy, but they did pretty good with the moment this video focuses on. Still, I included a few book lines just to ground it more with the character I had in mind when making this.

Aladdin II Shooting Star MEP Part 7

Dang, I don't think I've ever edited with Aladdin before this. It's just as well, though; I watched the Starkid musical parody of the movie over spring break, a play called "Twisted". It's on YouTube for free; check it out!

But besides that, Aladdin is also a beloved childhood film, and I don't think my fondness for it ever really died; my fondness for other Disney films just grew until it crowded Aladdin out of my top favorites. But still, I have an unreasonable amount of love for Agrabah's young street rat hero. It's good to work with him.

Winterbird 2015-03-07 | I feel like I have to defend this in so many ways.

So...I wanted to make a video with this song, and Ginny was the only character I edit with that even came CLOSE to fitting the bill. And admittedly it doesn't fit her perfectly.

First, it's important to know I was thinking of book!Ginny when I thought of this, hence the thumbnail. And she is WAY more interesting than movie!Ginny, who is so bland that I felt the need to cut the song until there was only 46 seconds left.

Now Ginny gets a lot of flack for having multiple boyfriends; the Gred and Forge song "Ginny Gets Around" even refers to her as "the easiest girl in school." And that's a lot of what I'm playing with in this video, so that's where the idea came from. :)

But please don't think that's what I actually think of Ginny. I don't think that's actually fair to her. She only ever had 3 boyfriends including Harry, and while she and Michael Corner were pretty nonchalant about their relationship, she seemed pretty serious with Dean. It wasn't like she was dating until Harry came around or would have left in the middle of a relationship to be with Harry. I don't think she ever "used" her boyfriends. I think she honestly was in these relationships and honestly tried to turn her heart away from Harry while she was in them. It just didn't work out. The other thing she gets accused of is treating Harry as a prize to be won, but I don't think that's fair either; one of the things that made their relationship special was that she saw Harry as himself.

So like her or hate her, I don't think Ginny is a good fit this song perfectly. But I digress. I wanted to do this video anyway. This was just too fun a song to pass up!

Also, why am I making this when I have so many other stuff I should work on? Eh...um...it was fun!

I have no excuse.

Now one little thing y'all might like is I found Michael Corner in the films! Check it out! He is there! (Never mentioned, of course, but he exists.)

I did a lot of new stuff with text for this video and used a style that is a bit new to me. I hope you like it!

As most of you who have seen my Vidder's Tag know, I am making a Harry Potter video with "Somebody to Die For" by Hurts. People seemed to like it and could tell I've poured my heart and soul into making it. This is the HTTYD video that had the same amount of heart and soul poured in. In fact, more love might have gone into it, if only because it was meant as a gift.

I actually started this video a long time back. I wanted to make it a joint birthday gift for my friends humilis hæres and hiccuptoothless94...hence a lot of the style choices I made in in its creation. But as most of you know, 2014 was a rough year. I lost my best friend and a member of my own family. The stress, I think, brought up other family issues as well. I was less inclined to make an effort to keep contact and had a hard time keeping up with birthday vids. Making Hiccup/Toothless friendship videos has been somewhat painful. As you can see, I've avoided it since this summer until now. And as a result, I failed to follow through with promises and gifts and sometimes even cut contact altogether for months at a time.

With only half of this video complete by December, I knew then it would be a dedication video to everyone I had missed and yet had remembered me and stood by me anyway.

To theNightFuryFan95 and MinnDreamweaver: Gosh, you two! Somehow you kept me in contact, and I don't know how. You made me feel INCLINED to talk, even when I just wanted to slam the door in everyone's face. It felt like I could tell you anything.

To inhonoredglory: I think I DID tell you everything. You allowed me to pour my heart out onto the ground, and I can never tell you how grateful I am. I didn't have to pretend with you. Ever.

To HTTYD2014: I couldn't speak for the longest time, but the words of comfort, the offer to talk, meant more than I could ever say, and your condolences I held close to my heart. You made it clear you were there, even when all I wanted to do was shut my eyes and pretend no one was.

To iVishu and hiccuptoothless94: I owe you both so much and gave you both so little this past year. I hope you can forgive me.

I ignore you, your messages, and your videos for so long, and yet you still find it in you to reach out to me and remember me on my birthday and in my holiday videos. You offer your condolences when I couldn't even find it in me to talk properly or look at your uploads. I can't say how much that meant to me!

These are wonderful, WONDERFUL people and are deserving of every bit of praise I can shower on them. I could never make this video as spectacular as they deserve; it's just not possible.

So to all of you, I'm sorry for not being a better friend, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being my friends anyway.

About the video: The song might be one of my favorites, but there are plenty of videos that already used this song for the first HTTYD movie. Only when the second one came out did I feel inclined to look into it again, and I wanted to make it different from the others. Most focus on how Toothless gave Hiccup freedom and kind of puts Toothless on a pedestal. I wanted this to show how Hiccup and Toothless saved one another and gave each other freedom. So yes, I constantly change points of view between them, and sometimes I refer to them both.

I've been into Alexander Rybak, a European pop star, for about two years now. (I guess it was meant to be; he made a song for HTTYD2!) I think this is my favorite by him because, even though the lyrics are a pretty generic "loved her, lost her, hope to find her" sort of thing, that FIDDLE! I just ADORE it! Can't get enough! Now I cut out the "lost her, hope to find her" part for Hiccup and Astrid, but I kept in huge fiddle portions for my own enjoyment!

I tried out a few experimental things here. How do you guys like the little circles? And how about that signature?

Now, anyone else notice at the end of HTTYD2 now Hiccup put the black sheep in ASTRID'S basket? Apparently catching sheep for your lady in Dragon Racing is a thing. ;)

Winterbird 2015-01-18 | Here's a little rescore video while you're all waiting for me to actually edit a video. I used two music scores for this: "Flight of the Order of the Phoenix" from the 5th Harry Potter film and "Dragon Flight" from the 8th Harry Potter film, with a little "Test Drive" slipping through to connect the two. (I think some "Test Drive" slipped in with the VOs, too. Oh, well.)

I did get a little lazy toward the end and did actually make a scene cut or two, so points if you can find them. However, as a rescore should be, the majority of the scene is untouched. The editing is in the audio.

I got this idea after doing my rescore of GOTNF for Snoggletog. Since "Where No One Goes" didn't work for this Test Drive scene, I wanted to find a score that did. At first, I was going to use "Buckbeak's Flight", like I did for my rescore of the HTTYD2 teaser trailer, but similar videos like that have already been done:

Well, this took awhile. I was tagged the day after my birthday, and yet, it took me almost 3 months to get my own tag up. (Thanks for the tag, theNightFuryfan95! ) Ah, well, better late than never. I swear, finally getting this up on New Year's Eve is a total coincidence, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless. It's like I'm welcoming the new year by remembering years of old!

I know, I should be working on birthday and dedication stuff, and I intend to. The next video you'll see from me will be a dedication video of some sort...or a Valentine's Day video, depending on how time gets away from me.

You know, a few months after I named myself WhispertheWolf, I found my screenname was a bit...unfortunate. By choosing this name, I immediately categorized myself with a rather unfitting stereotype. But I had already made connections by that time, and so I decided to stick with the name. And since then, I have done my best not to shy away from it; if I'm WhispertheWolf, I will OWN the wolf theme! So this video is as wolf-themed as possible! Because I'm a WOLF! =D

I tell you what, picking top 5 videos, even when you split it into categories, is HARD! I couldn't possibly rank them, so nothing is numbered. Heck, even picking among my own was hard! Even though I sometimes wish I could tweak a few things, I like pretty much all the videos I make; that's why I make them. I almost put my Harry Potter Christmas video on that list, but...eh...such hard choices...

As for the many top videos made by others...ah, man, I spent FOREVER on that! I originally was just going to have 3 categories: Animated Videos, Live Action Videos, and Horse Music Videos. But when the entirety of the Animated Videos list was made up of HTTYD vids and 4 out of the 5 Live Action list was Harry Potter vids, I realized those two fandoms might need their own lists to be fair.

Now, on the Top 5 (non-HTTYD) Animated Videos list theNightFuryfan95's "Utopia", may seem like a bit of a cop-out...I mean, favoriting my own birthday gift? Also, it's half-HTTYD...a little of a cheat for the non-HTTYD list. But it is not the only fandom in the video, so it counts! And anyway, birthday vids are supposed to be videos that the receiver will really like, and NF95 happened to hit the nail on the head. "Utopia" by Within Temptations is one of my favorite songs of all time, the effects and lyrics are perfect (not too much, not too little), the ending quote is from one of my favorite authors and a great quote regardless, and it uses two of my favorite animated movies...one of which is my favorite movie of all. On top of all that, it is emotional, heartfelt, and beautiful in its own right, and I am the luckiest Youtuber ever to receive such a gift! It's by far my favorite animash.

I know I have friends who haven't read or seen Harry Potter and claim they will one day. You guys know who you are. Don't you DARE click the link to any of my favorite Harry Potter videos! Big big BIG spoilers galore! I'm watching you! *glares suspiciously*

As for the horse music videos...if it's there, assume something about it reminded me of Jetta or our time together. Good rule of thumb there.

I know the last time I asked what previews you want me to finish, I didn't do a good job of following up due to school and editor problems, but let's try this again. The song used, "Blink" by Revive, was not chosen just because I like it; it was chosen specifically for its lyrics. Nothing major, just a little detail I thought would be interesting.

Harry Potter ⚡️ The Bells on Christmas Day

Yes, this year's Christmas vid is a bit of a sad video, but it's got an uplifting ending, I think. The first time I heard this song, I couldn't help thinking of Harry Potter. It turns out that's not such a strange thing; the original version of "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" was written for the Civil War, and the centerpiece of the Harry Potter storyline are the two wizarding wars, both of which Harry ends.

The first scene I thought of for this song and Harry Potter was Christmas Eve in 'Dealthy Hallows', where Harry and Hermione visit his parents' graves and they are later attacked and escape Voldemort and Nagini just as the bells rang in Christmas Day. I always thought there was a significance to them escaping at the very moment that Christmas arrived. Christmas has always had importance in Harry Potter, after all. It is the day he first got a present that was owned by his father, when he saw his parents in a magic mirror, when he and Ron used Polyjuice Potion to get info out of Draco, when he finds out about the (supposed) betrayal by Sirius Black (during the holiday season, anyway), when the Yule Ball takes place, when Mr. Weasley comes home from hospital and Harry bonds more with Sirius, when Harry bonds further with Ginny in his sixth year of school, and when Ron hears Hermione's voice coming out of the Deluminator. Christmas is always a significant part of the plot, even if it's actual celebration is merely glanced at.

I also went into matching the lyrics a bit with non-Christmastime scenes. After all, the heart of song was what made me want to make an HP vid with it.

Knowing all that, I'll let you guys decide what the video is saying or pertaining to on your own. Also, watch to the end credits for a special treat! You'll want to hear the credits song, anyway; it's a wizard rock Christmas song by Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls, and it pertains to the Christmas season the way it was spent in 'Deathly Hallows'. Seemed fitting, given my inspiration for the song.

ⒼⓄⓉⓃⒻ Rescore ~ Where No One Goes (Happy Snoggletog!)

Winterbird 2014-11-15 | Well, my Christmas video this year is going to be a Harry Potter vid, so I wanted to upload a little something for Snoggletog. It's now the 3rd anniversary of Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury. Happy Snoggletog everyone!

I don't have a lot of time on my hands right now, but, including rendering, this thing only took me about 15 minutes, so it was more than doable. But that's why it's a rescore and not a heavily edited music video. But rescore or music video, I love to match these drumbeats!

I originally was going to put the Test Drive scene to "Where No One Goes" once upon a time, but the Test Drive scene is obviously about learning to fly together, learning to trust one another, and Hiccup learning to trust himself. "Where No One Goes" is about the freedom a rider and horse - er, dragon - feel when they are just out being crazy together and exploring. It felt more appropriate for scenes like these.

I like "Where No One Goes" for this reason, but I do have to say, I know Jonsi is Icelandic, but couldn't they try to enunciate a LITTLE bit more? The words "no" and "one" run together, and most of the time they leave out the "s" at the end of "goes."

I might have taken too many choir classes when I was younger. :/

Also, anyone else ever noticed that the title "Gift of the Night Fury" is a reference to "Gift of the Magi"? Anyone? Just putting that out there. While I do have a few bones to pick with this little film (Vikings already celebrated Yule, so you didn't have to make up a Christmas-like holiday; it makes no sense for dragons to breed in the middle of winter; yaks don't live in freakin' Europe!), the gift of the Magi portion between Hiccup and Toothless, by far, makes all of the flaws worth it!

There is no editing of these two scenes besides gluing them together; all editing is in the audio. Again, I want to wish you all a happy Snoggletog!

So this year, I not only got a creepy vid, but this one is an outright horror! Well, as much of a horror vid as you can make out of HTTYD 2.

So I already explained two years ago how making a Viking video ties into Halloween with the Dark Age Scandinavian festival of Winter Nights. Winter Nights takes place from October 29 to November 2. As for this vid, the most terrifying part really is the ending if you ask me. And I finally figured out the credits on Sony Vegas! Look! I have them back! In fact, the last time I did credits was on my Halloween vid last year...

Now, this video does actually follow a storyline, one outlined in the film. When I first heard this song, I thought of Drago's relationship with his Bewilderbeast. Drago abused his Bewilderbeast into submission starting at a young age until the Bewilderbeast was forced to believe that the world was against him and only obeying Drago's commands could keep him safe. However, I also realized the lyrics were a great description of what the Bewilderbeast "tells" the dragons he enslaves. In the end, I decided to make the whole video the story of this maddened, cold-hearted, tragic character. Although a victim of Drago's cruelty, the Bewilderbeast, in the end, really is a villain, as he has lost his ability to love and empathize and has only hatred for the world around him. He will continue to rise to power at Drago's command as long as he can, cutting down everyone who stands in his way. And just as Drago expects blind loyalty from him, he expects blind loyalty from his dragon subjects! A truly tragic but frightening villain if there ever was one!

There are a few things in here I wish I had time to fix, but life got in the way of me perfecting this. Oh well. I think it looks good, anyway.

Solomon and Gaenor ~ Not About Angels

Winterbird 2014-10-20 | This has been uploaded for my mother's birthday. "Solomon and Gaenor" is a low-budget Welsh film with a number of awards won at film shows and is basically a Romeo and Juliet story. One of mom's and my favorite actors, Ioan Gruffudd, plays Solomon, a Jewish boy who falls in love with Gaenor, a Christian girl in Wales near the turn of the 20th century.

If you want to see this film, then you should be warned that this video has spoilers. But I also warn you that this movie is rated R for nudity and sex and that it has a tragic ending with no satisfying resolution for anyone. If you that turns you off, you can just read below and watch the video.

STORY: Solomon first lies to Geanor, saying his name is Sam and that he is an Englishman because he knows their families won't approve of their relationship. Before he can figure out how to come out to her with the truth, she is pregnant with their child and, in addition, finds out the truth herself. They begin meeting in secret at an abandoned church and resolve to run away, but they agree to leave on the same night that the poor miners on strike (including Gaenor's brother, Crad) raid the Jewish stores that have been boarded up, including Solomon's family's shop. Solomon is intercepted from getting to Gaenor or stopping the raiders by his father, who tells him he will no longer be part of their family if he leaves with Gaenor.

The next day, Gaenor gives back the stolen goods and leaves a gift basket for Solomon's family, but Solomon never gets to thank her and try again; he is sent away and forced to work for his family, not allowed to keep any money for himself. Solomon's family tells Gaenor the child is not a part of their family.

When Gaenor is almost ready to give birth, she is sent to a relative to have her illigetimate baby quietly. Hearing the news, Solomon, with no money of his own, sets out to find her. He goes to the pub to ask Crad where she went, but Crad starts beating him up in anger. Finally, Crad relents, knowing that otherwise Solomon will forever haunt his thoughts.

Solomon travels alone through the countryside in winter and eventually arrives where Gaenor is staying. The two finally marry unofficially, but Solomon dies of gangrene the day his son is born. With no father for the baby, Gaenor is forced to give him up and then heads home with Solomon's body in a coffin. They pick up Crad along the way, who places his hand on Solomon's coffin, knowing that, indeed, Solomon's words will haunt him for the rest of his life. END.

The movie is highly dialogue-driven, so I tried to put a lot of dialogue in the video. The reason for the Yiddish with English subtitles is because this movie is trilingual. Solomon and his family speak in Yiddish to one another, Gaenor and her family speak in Welsh to one another, and Solomon and Gaenor speak in English to each other. Also, my mother doesn't like flashy videos, as they make her feel sick and queasy, so this is a very subtle vid without a lot of layers or effects.

The song is from "The Fault in Our Stars", which although I haven't seen the movie, I know from the book is an equally tragic story about two doomed lovers.

HTTYD ~ These Times are Hard (Preview)

So as most of you who follow my channel know, I lost my best friend - my horse, Jetta - not long ago. She was like my other half, and losing her has put me down quite a bit. And not long ago, I also received news that my cousin committed suicide. Safe to say, my family and I have had a rough time.

But my best friend sent me a message a few days ago that had me working on this nonstop. Because we shouldn't let tragedies tear us down. So here's to all of us going through rough times...a little video to say that, don't worry, we will be okay. The world may be different than it was before, and that sad thing may never go away, but your world can get better, and it will if you let it.

Now this video is a vent video first and foremost. I did my best to make it match the situations in the Dragons universe, too, but there were times where I was merely using Hiccup to express myself. For example, at 1:24-1:30, Hiccup represents me, and Astrid represents my friend MinnDreamweaver.

The reason I didn't finish this video is because I want to put HTTYD2 footage at the end. And not that low-quality one that's going around the Internet right now. (By the way, please stop that. HTTYD2 already did not bring in the box office numbers DreamWorks hoped for in the opening week; passing around the pirated movie is not helping.) I want good quality images, the kind I probably can't get until the DVD and Blu-ray come out in October. But I couldn't wait to post this until then; I think I'll no longer need to vent by the time that's available. So here's what I have now.

Now here I focused more on lyrics and actually had a lot fewer clips than my style usually calls for. I guess you could say I've been trying different things with my Vegas editor. (Gosh, I love that thing!) But there are still a few strobing portions and other rapid clip editings. I don't think it'd be a WhispertheWolf video without those.

So here's to all those going through hard times; hold on, be strong, and just remember, they will pass.

Animash ~ Theres No Magic in the World

So as most of you who follow my channel know, I lost my best friend - my horse, Jetta - not long ago. She was like my other half, and losing her has put me down quite a bit. But while that certainly adds to the feeling behind this video, that's not the reason I made it.

I recently found out a cousin of mine committed suicide. It's just so...unreal. If you knew Bob, he was a guy who rolled with the punches and laughed at life's difficulties. He lived life to the fullest, living off the land and going skiing and whatever else he could, whenever he could. There was not a moment he didn't LIVE! And he was the kind of guy who was fun to be around and the sort of person you could rely on. He is one of the last people I would ever think would commit suicide.

Sometimes it does make you wonder...if he couldn't take life, who can?

And Bob once said...he said we don't leave people behind. Why would he leave us behind?

It's been a rough summer.

With that in mind, this vid may seem like it came from a dark place, and it has, but I promise this is not my state of mind in general. This is just how I felt when I found out. I mean, how could someone that great, that fearless, that full of life...want to leave that life by choice?

I've been alright, all things considered. I've even smiled and laughed since this event. But there are times where it just seems like so much and you just wonder...why.

I DO believe there's magic in the world. Just not today.

So I'm not really back to editing yet, but after seeing this fantastic movie on Thursday with a very special friend of mine, I decided I should try to finish this up. "Kings and Queens" is something I've had nearly completed since May, and after Jetta died, I just stopped working on all my projects all together. Today I decided to suck it up and finish the last 30 seconds of this vid for the event. In celebration of the release of How to Train Your Dragon 2 this weekend, here is "Kings and Queens" (which, having seen the movie, is actually a surprisingly fitting song).

I don't really like videos that have so many effects that you feel like you're watching the effects and not the images from the original source, but effects do look nice. So in this, I was trying to see how many effects I could put in without obscuring the images and clip editing. Hence the many, many overlays and color manipulations. I've experimented with this in the past, but here I was really trying to outdo myself. Let me know what you think.

I don't think I'm really, truly back to editing, but hopefully this will hold my subscribers until I am. These times are hard, but they will pass.

Its Like Youre Screaming and No One Can Hear

Winterbird 2014-05-28 | Jetta has been my best friend and horse for 6 years now. How close of a best friend she was can be seen in this video, where you'll see I included the quote from this video in that video's description: youtube.com/watch?v=n5g7BUdg-08

At the time of that last video, I had thought our parting would have come through her sale to another person when I went off to college. This wasn't what I was expecting at all.

In another previous video, I described of Jetta's surgeries, which happened a few years ago. One was to remove a cyst that had developed in her right nasal cavity, and the other was to reconfigure that cavity after the cyst warped it and hampered the nose's drainage. The surgery proved successful. After four months of recovery, Jetta spent the next two years pain free and doing all the adventurous things we had always done with nothing more than a scar on her face to show for it.

When I reunited with Jetta just last Wednesday after being away at college, Jetta's face was swollen at the site of the old surgeries. Most assumed it was likely just a hematoma that needed to be drained, but no matter how often I told myself that, I couldn't shake the feeling something was seriously wrong. She was taken to the large animal hospital where she was treated before to diagnose her.

The swelling was a hematoma, but the reason it was so bad was because the hit that had caused it had struck another cyst that had developed in a similar location and had been growing for some time. To remove this cyst would require an even more evasive surgery with the same recovery time and the almost complete guarantee that this will be a recurring problem. Leaving the cyst would only give her a few months before headaches and infections would hinder her health permanently, as they did before when her sickness alerted us to the first cyst. Furthermore, the cyst and any cysts that develop after it are at risk of becoming cancerous.

Nothing we could do at this point can give her a pain-free future, even if we retired her and sent her to pasture. And since the damaged location is the nose, removing the scar tissue permanently was not an option.

Jetta was put down today, May 28, 2014. While most horses her size usually make it to 25, Jetta is only 18 years old.

This may well be my last video for some time.

As for Minn, herself, well, she is the reason I even started editing videos on Youtube. You may even say she's my video mentor. Anyway, she has a number of different Youtube channels that she likes to keep separate, but the one you guys ought to know her by his MinnDreamweaver, her channel for DreamWorks movie AMVs. She only has one so far but will hopefully have more in the future.

Another thing you should know is that this girl is amazing. Really. Any time I need to talk about something - be it life, pain, joy, boys, family issues, fandoms, or other weird topics - I know she'll listen and care about what I have to say. Ours is a bond built not just on common interests but on deep reliance, trust, and love, and I can't tell you all how lucky I was to meet this girl. She's my best friend...well, my best human friend, anyway. ;)

One of Minn's and my favorite activities is overanalyzing fandoms. And boy ,have we thought a lot about HTTYD...especially the many dragons! Now, like everyone else, the Night Fury has always been a favorite for both of us, but her other two favorites are the Grapple Grounder - a dragon found only on the video game - and the mighty Skrill!

So here you are, Minn, a video about the amazing Skrill in all its glamour!

One of the most mysterious and feared species, this is a powerful, elusive, 22-foot-long creature. Though average in size, this dragon should not be underestimated; its strength and power make it one of the most challenging dragons to train. Much like the Night Fury, the Skrill is a speedy and stealthy flyer. Catching up to it is one challenge; keeping track of it is another. This dragon has a sleek, dark exterior that makes it extremely difficult to spot in gloomy weather. These dragons are rarely seen.

The Skrill loves a good thunderstorm and for good reason. This shocking dragon is known to ride lightning bolts like an air torpedo to reach supersonic speeds. This riding upon lightning bolts allows it to shock its prey during an attack. Attracted to lightning and found only during electrical storms, the Skrill does not breathe fire. Instead, it is able to channel white lightning, redirecting the lightning from the clouds. They do this by channeling the lightning down their sharp metallic spines and firing it from their mouths in a shower of destructive blasts. By riding these lightning bolts during an attack, it can shock its prey/opponent. It can use this technique to hit several targets at once. When a Skrill’s lightning and a Night Fury’s lightning plasma blast hit, they negate each other, causing a large explosion. Skrills can also store this electrical power in their bodies and release it later on. This is why its body crackles with static electricity from lightning bolts, which can give the Skrill static electric charge for hours after an attack. Because of this, if you stand too close to a Skrill, the electricity will make your hair stand on end. Because of their unique firepower, Skrills tend to gravitate towards stormy weather. If you find yourself flying through a thunderstorm, watch out!

Skrills are also tough. They can take a lot of damage in battle and give as good as they get. It's one of the few dragons who can go head-to-head and toe-to-toe with a Night Fury. However, the Skrill has one weakness...it cannot redirect any lightning from the water. Force a Skrill into the ocean, and it loses the upper hand.

Because of their internal body temperature, Skrills can hibernate in icy glaciers for decades at a time, even being completely encased in ice, and emerge as fierce as the day they were frozen.

Skrills are the symbol of the bloodthirsty Berserker tribe. There are tales about Berserker fleets attacking behind harnessed dragons that brought down lightning from the sky and destroyed everything in their path; this most certainly refers to the Skrill in a controlled collar.

Personality: Belligerent and as unpredictable as lightning strikes! This dragon is intelligent, aggressive, and highly secretive.

Diet: Mutton

Fire Type: Summons Lightning

Ability: Shock

Training Tip: Skrills are nearly untrainable, but they can be manipulated by way of a collar-harness controlled by ropes, like a puppet. Approach a Skrill with extreme caution. If you get too close, prepare for some shocking effects.

Winterbird 2014-03-21 | Now see, this is what happens when you rewatch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the umpteenth time and then dream about the upcoming How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Just a little rescoring with Harry Potter music. I went for minimal editing, not even including transitions if I could help it. I even included as much of the sound effects and voiceovers as I could without compromising the music. The only editing here is audio manipulation, a few transitions at the end, some cutting, and a few speed changes to time it to the music. Also, I added a few scenes from the official trailer at the end to make a smooth ending.

Now as some of you know, Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon are my two favorite fandoms. So whenever I put HP and HTTYD together, it makes me insanely happy!

Also, when editing with this score, it's quite clear that the scores for the Harry Potter movies - particularly the first three - sound a lot like the scores from the Star Wars movies. Then again, the Star Wars movies and the first three Harry Potter movies had the same composer, so no surprise there.

Bambi ~ Hello

Winterbird 2014-03-10 | A vent video. Recent events have brought up some memories, so don't worry, I'm not venting about anything that happened recently.

If you haven't seen Bambi II, you're probably not going to get half of the lyric matching. Still, if you've seen Bambi, I'm sure you'll get the gist of the video.

This song is beautiful portrait of the denial we feel when we have lost someone, I think. I heard it was written about the singer's thoughts after she, as a little girl, heard that one of her friends had died, and she didn't understand. If that's the case, it certainly portrays the scenario well.

Hard to believe this is only my third Bambi video. It's been so long since I've made one. My last Bambi vid was years ago, before I even made my first HTTYD vid. I's been awhile since I included lyrics in a video, too.

You'll notice I have my signature but not my usual credit reel. If fact, you'll notice I haven't done a credit reel since I switched to a Vegas editor. The reason is that Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12.0 doesn't appear to have an option to make text scroll up, which is how I always made my credits. So I've been unable to make them. (This is one of two reasons as to why my Horse Breeds Series has been put on hiatus.) But I decided to go back to putting my signature end scene, at least.

Well, I am very late in this. This was supposed to be inhonoredglory's birthday video. However, seeing as her birthday is in DECEMBER, it's safe to say I missed the mark on that. So yes, I've spent 2 and a half MONTHS making this thing, and though today may not be the best day to post it due to other sad events in the lives of our friends, I didn't want to delay this any longer.

This video, I hope, illustrates Hiccup's road to glory in the first film, including his willingness to love and his bravery and selflessness. I know you've been reading The Lord of the Rings and wanted to include a quote from that, but for some reason I decided that this quote from Gandalf in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was the most fitting. HTTYD (Thornado & Stoick) ~ Goodbye, Old Friend

Winterbird 2014-02-22 | In honor of Thornado, Stoick's dragon, who was tamed by Stoick in Episode 7 of Dragons: Riders of Berk and set free in Episode 18 of Dragons: Defenders of Berk. This is so we all may say goodbye to our favorite Thunderdrum.

I loved Thornado. Among the dragons, he is one of my favorites, up there with Toothless and Meatlug. I'm very sorry to see that he was written only for the show and will not be included How to Train Your Dragon 2. (And if they were going to write him in and then write him out, why was he created in the first place? That's not okay, DreamWorks!)

But all the same, I found Stoick's and Thornado's story very personal. I had to say goodbye to my best and dearest friend, my horse Jetta when I went to college half a country away (as I'm sure many of you are tired of me saying). But when I did it, I did it knowing it was for the best. I was headed off into my new life, and it would be stressful for me and for Jetta for me to force her to come with me all that way. That being as it is, she is up for sale. The reason is that I don't want her to spend these next four years without someone who can love her and care for her as I once did. I want her to have someone. So I let her go.

Just as Stoick let Thornado go in order to do the right thing. And it was hard...but it was what needed to be done.

In this video, I included every episode Thornado featured in with the exception of Defenders of Berk Episode 16 "The Eel Effect" (because he wasn't featured with Stoick in that episode).

HTTYD 2 ~ If You Close Your Eyes

No, really, I usually have a reason for what I make, but not this. I could say this is for the new year since it's my first 2014 video. (Shout out to the year of HTTYD 2! Happy New Year, everyone!) I could say I made this to celebrate the coming of HTTYD 2! *excited squeak* The excitement for that certainly was the inspiration for this, to be sure. I could also say I made this to try out coloring effects in Sony Vegas, because that's what I ended up doing.

I could even say that I made this to celebrate the end of my first semester in college. "Pompeii" by Bastille has actually become a theme song for a myself and a fellow freshman friend of mine. We go on long hikes in the hills together, and one hike this got stuck in my head after she went to see a Bastille concert. Ever since, it's been the song we sing together on hikes, in the car, and so on. "Pompeii" is destined to always remind me of college, of hiking, and of my dear new friend who has become like a sister to me. (No, really, I call her family my Colorado family. Her mother basically adopted me.)

But...nope, I just sort of made this thing because I wanted to. There you go.

Speaking of my Sony Movie Studio editor, I'd like to take a moment to quickly compare Sony Movie Studio 11 and VideoPad 4.1.

Things VideoPad Does Better than Sony:
1. More exact audio cuts.
2. Easier to make exact timings for flashes, strobing, ect.
3. Exact cropping and easier zoom.

Multifandom ~ Christmas Canon

I knew I wanted to do something with both How to Train Your Dragon and Harry Potter, and here it is, my second video that has both HTTYD and HP! I felt 4 fandoms in all would be appropriate. Rise of the Guardians was an obvious choice. Took a little longer to pick Hugo, but it just fit so well with the lyrics! "This dream we have" definitely says Hugo!

Until I was editing this, I didn't realize how many Christmas scenes in Harry Potter were sad scenes! I mean, really, even the first movie, where his Christmas is wonderful and everyone's happy, he's just so delighted to even be recieving gifts because he never has before. Just that smile and the way he says in amazement, "I got presents!" It makes you want to hug him and say, "Oh, Harry, I'll give you Christmas presents every year!" :')

{ROTG} Jack Frosts Lullaby (Sony Vegas Test)

HTTYD ~ O Red Death (Happy Halloween!)

This year, a friend of mine and I are were going to be Batgirl and Robin, but her Batgirl costume was a bust. So she's Sam Winchester from Supernatural. I'm still Robin. That's okay, I don't need a hero to sidekick with. I can be my own hero, leader of the Teen Titans!

As for this video, I've had this idea of the Red Death being the Death that is personified in this song for awhile. It seemed to fit, and I knew it would make a great Halloween vid. I also knew I was going to be pressed for time again this year, so I started this video weeks ahead of time. With any luck, this will be the last video you will ever see from me that will be made with VideoPad, since I now have Sony Vegas!

I thought of The Prince of Egypt immediately when hearing this song. Moses had to come to terms with what he had done when he ended up killing a man. The lyrics couldn't have been better matched.

I was surprised when this song came up in our list. I've heard "What I've Done" by Linkin Park plenty of times. It was the first Linkin Park song I liked and spoke of the need to forgive oneself. But I had never heard this cover before. I must say, I love it when someone who does a cover makes their own take on a song. By making this heavy rock song into a soft, slow, acoustic piano and vocal piece, Marie Digby turned the theme from a struggle into a quiet contemplation and acceptance. A beautiful cover!

Also, this is hopefully the second-to-last video I will ever make on VideoPad. :) Sony Vegas, here I come!

My Horse Jetta ~ ♥Soulmate♥ (Tears Stream)

Winterbird 2013-09-22 | As terrible as my lose is...woe be to the old who don't understand this pain because they obviously have never had a bond this strong. I dedicate this video to all those who ever been separated from their soulmate.

This is just a vent video, really, something to make me feel connected once more. I wanted to put in more "stuff," like Jetta and I galloping, us cantering and jumping with my hands in the air, and fun stuff like that, but my grandmother was my main camera person (hence why some shots are shaky), and she didn't want me doing anything "dangerous." She also didn't see the point in getting lots of videos of us on the ground, such as Jetta backing up when I wiggle my finger or her walking by my side while loose. A lot of the stuff that made it into the video is boring by comparison. But hey, I got some bridleless riding in there!

Oh, the pictures where Jetta looks skinny and wiry with a sunken-in face? Those were pictures of how she looked when we got her (hence that little girl next to her; that's me). I promise you, she never looked like that again and never will.

You HTTYD fans probably saw the "touch scene". I didn't intentionally do that while filming - I was actually giving Jetta the hand signal to "stay" and she decided she didn't want to stay and wanted my touch instead - but I won't say I wasn't thinking of the HTTYD touch scene when I was editing. ;)

While making this, I began to wonder why I never made videos of Jetta before. The obvious reason was I didn't really have a good cameraperson to be out there with us. Now I realize there was another reason: I was too busy living it to bother making videos of it.

Also, I was actually going to use this Dawson's Creek audio about soulmates for a HTTYD vid, but I decided to use it for Jetta instead. Other people have already beaten me to the idea, anyway. Here's a list of HTTYD soulmate vids:

Winterbird 2013-09-14 | This is...ugh...more than a MONTH late! And my reasons - though not excusable - are as follows:
-I went to college. On the other side of the United States. This was a stressful and time-consuming, albeit exciting, transition.
-In leaving behind college, I left behind my heart and soul: my horse and best friend, Jetta. I might has well have lost one of my limbs. So the emotional turmoil has made editing a little hard to deal with, especially after the exhausting practice of trying to keep up with studies while in emotional turmoil. Not that this compares with what hiccuptoothless94 has had to go through this past few months, but...still...
-I have a stupid editor. Really. I'm pretty sure it hates me and wants me to die a slow, painful death. As a birthday present, I'm buying myself a new one. Expect a new editor in October. The date is set. Why not before? That's...when I get gift money...and being in college, I'm sort of broke...

First of all, in the world of Youtube, she is a video-editing LEGEND with the apt superhero nickname of Flash for the epic flashing in her vids! Her primary focus, as her screenname lets on, is the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless, which, just as I felt mirrored myself and Jetta, she felt mirror herself and her dog and best friend, Milly, peace be with her.(Hats off to the world's most wonderful dog.) HT94's video "Hiccup & Toothless ~ Not Alone" (youtube.com/watch?v=xkyEho5eba0) is still my favorite Youtube video of all time (tied with inhonoredglory's HTTYD anniversary tribute) because of not only the wonderful editing but the feelings and reasons behind it and the feelings it generated in me. I still cry watching it!

I repeat what I said in the video, HT94: I'm blessed to call you a friend. Your comments and support are truly uplifting! I've always admired not only your editing but your kind and compassionate character as well. Our love and understanding of Hiccup and Toothless' relationship - as well as our mutual love of dogs and horses - drew us together, and it warms my heart to think of it! Our comments, PMs, and other little chats I will treasure always! You've had to go through some tough times, and I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart. I hope you know I and all the Circle love you and support you through these trials.

As for this video, this is NOT the video I meant initially for HT94's birthday. Apparently, after some computer trouble, I lost about 75% of the completed project. Well, I was already a month late, and that project was a 5-minute-long video. So I went with this idea, a much shorter and simpler video focusing on the development of Hiccup and Toothless' relationship. (Maybe I'll finish the other one as a dedication to HT94.) As I'm sure you know, HT94, when bonding with an animal - or anyone - the trials you face, the mistakes you make, and the little things that happen along the way to building that relationship are just as important as the final product. And not only did I want to focus on the building of the relationship, as opposed to the relationship itself, but I also wanted to include only the movie and Christmas special. After all, those were the wonderful start of it all! And since HT94 just adores the touch scene, I thought it appropriate to have a video with much of it dedicated to the most iconic and most important scene in their budding relationship!

Since this video is about a relationship between a human and animal, I not only want to dedicate this to HT94 as a (awfully late) birthday present, but I also want to dedicate this video in memory of sweet, wonderful Milly!

And if I cry over both her and Jetta while watching this...I've been feeling very emotional lately...

By the way, Within Temptation, which plays this song, is one of my favorite bands. (In fact, my first HTTYD video was with one of their songs. If you prefer modern or hard rock, that song and others like it may be more your style; if you prefer what you hear in this video, they also have a Celtic album worth checking out.) This happens to be my favorite song by them, along with their song "Utopia". I wanted to use an instrumental version, but I couldn't find one, so I just cut out the lyrical parts (which is too bad; they're beautiful) and just included the instrumental portions. I wish I could have had enough to cut out the electric guitar, but it made for nice, fun flying scenes, as well as a bit of humor.

REMAKE: Kelpie ~ The Water Horse

Winterbird 2013-09-07 | A music video I made for the British Isle and Scandinavian myth of the water horse. There are many water horse legends across the Isles: the cabyll-ushtey on the Isle of Man, the nykur of Iceland and the Faroe Islands, the nuggle of the Orkney and Shetland islands, the backahast ("brook horse") or nokk of Scandinavia, the Ceffyl Dwr of Wales, and the each uisge and the kelpie of Scotland and Ireland, to name a few. The Scottish kelpie is the most famous and is often used as a blanket term for these water horses in the modern day. Though they all have their own traits, there are many that they all share. These water horses are shape-shifting faeries and are most often seen in the form of a horse, the color of which may be black, gray, white, or "green as glass." As a horse, water horses are said to be the fastest, strongest, most enduring horse of all. They can be beautiful riding horses, majestic light drafts, or cute ponies, depending on what their prey prefers. These horses will approach unwitting people while appearing friendly. Once a person gets on the water horse's back, he or she is unable to dismount. The water horse then gallops into a body of water, where it drowns its victim. Some legends even go on to say that the water horse devours the body.

The shape-shifting water horses are not confined to horse forms but can turn into anything, including humans. It is possible to recognize water horses in their human form by noting a bit of seaweed or waterweed in their hair. The water horse often favors young girls or virgins and can win them as a horse or as a charming gentleman. Sometimes they force their female victims to marry them, live with them in their watery home, and have their children. Female water horses are found less commonly in myth but are just as deadly. They usually take the form of a beautiful woman in a green dress.

According to Scottish kelpie lore, the only way to survive a ride on a water horse is to gain control of its bridle, which is the source of its shape-shifting power. Once you have the bridle, it is at your mercy. You may keep the amazingly strong and fast horse as yours and even breed it to land horses. The result will be very strong, very fast, very beautiful horses with a fondness for water. However, keeping any faerie captive, especially a water horse, is very dangerous.

In this video, I put the Scottish and Irish water horses, the kelpie and the each uisge, to the Irish Gaelic song "Dulaman" (which translates to "Seaweed") as performed by Celtic Women. The song follows various water horses as they encounter humans, win the humans' trust, allow themselves to be ridden, and then eventually drown their victims. Clips are from a kelpie legend recounted on Discovery Education; the movies "Seachd", "Into the West", "The Black Stallion", "The Young Black Stallion", "King Arthur", and "Alexander"; and various commercials, including Guinness, Continental, and Arabian Horse Association commercials.

ROTG {Jack Frost} ~ Cold Song

Winterbird 2013-07-17 | When I first began making this video, I had a very specific idea in mind. I knew exactly what scenes I wanted and what I thought their significance would be. Everything here is here for a reason. But when I finished, I found at least two other ways to interpret this video. Because of this, I'm not going to tell you what I was thinking when I made it or how I interpreted it afterward. I'm going to let you, the viewers, decide what this video is trying to say. Is it following the movie's plot? Is it following its own, more tragic plot? Is it telling about purely Jack's emotions? Is this simply a character study? Is this a comment on the Man in the Moon or Jack Frost or both? You decide what you see, and if you feel so inclined, I'd love it if you told me your interpretation in the comments.

I will admit that my original thoughts for this video are related to a tragic, winter-themed short story I once wrote. My apologizes to all who wish to read it, but it was a hand-written story taken by one of my teachers and never given back. I haven't had the heart to rewrite it.

This song, called "What power art thou?" or more commonly "Cold Song", is a song that is from the semi-opera "King Arthur" and was written in the...late 1600s, I believe? It was composed by Henry Purcell and comes from the most famous scene from "King Arthur", a scene from Act 4 known as the Frost Scene. In this scene, Cupid wakes the Cold Genius, the spirit of winter, and then the Cold Genius sings this song, which is said to be the most beautiful song in the entire production. (I personally think that depends on who sings it.)

The version I have here is sung by Gordon Sumner, a.k.a. Sting. Sting's voice is not an opera voice and is a lot breathier than an opera voice, so there are people who think this is not a good version of the song. The opera version uses staccato singing to exhibit the character's feelings of cold, but Sting's breathiness, I think, has a similar effect. Personally I like both, and I find this one to be the more haunting version.

Perhaps the reason I like Sting is because when he sings, I think he feels the same way I do about music. In my "Long Live Childhood Memories" video description, I talked about how stories make us human. Some stories even touch the soul. Music can tell a story, too, and I love it when it does, but to me, the main purpose of music is to transcend humanity and reach the spirit. I feel deeply spiritual when listening to music, especially beautiful and/or haunting songs such as this. Sting's voice can bring that spirituality to life.

If you haven't seen "King Arthur" and you get any sort of enjoyment from stage productions, I recommend seeing it. Most of the play is spoken, so if you're not an opera fan, you might like it anyway. I believe it's on DVD, though I haven't seen it to tell you if that production was a good one. I know you can get the audio on CD if you wish.

Okay, now that this is out of my system, I'm off to work on things I should be working on, like birthday gifts and collabs and MEP parts and Horse Breed videos and all those videos I put in my Previews video...How did I get into all these things again? o_O

HTTYD ~ Its Time (Happy Birthday, theNightFuryFan95!)

Winterbird 2013-07-11 | There's some history behind this video. I said I would make an HTTYD vid with this song after doing my Perks of Being Wallflower mock trailer HTTYD-style. But after I was about halfway done, I realized I didn't like the effects I was putting in, so I scratched it and started over. I was determined to finish it and even announced it in a previews video. But then, once more I was discouraged and was ready to scratch the idea altogether.

But you know the reason I finally finished? theNightFuryFan95. Her encouragement kept me going. So because of that, halfway through this video, instead of giving up, I decided to not only finish this video but to dedicate it to NF95 on this most auspicious occasion. It's time...to celebrate theNightFuryFan95's birthday!

Now I happen to know that NF95 and I are in the same time zone, so NF95, I am sorry this is being uploaded in the afternoon...evening...prevening? Yeah, let's go with prevening. 5:20ish pm. This was actually done on time, and I was going to be all cool and upload this at exactly midnight on your birthday. But then VideoPad decided to crash when I asked it to make this project into video. It crashed not once, but multiple times....yeah...So very sorry, but I got it! It's here!
