Steam Deck Quickie: Get GE-Proton with ProtonUp-QT
updated
Well, now you can with this simple, easy to use method.
Note, currently there is no way to add BAT files to Armoury Crate without a "tween" app that would require Admin/elevated permissions and nobody wants that. Believe me, I tried everything I could to get this added ... if you find a way? Let me know.

Someone on Reddit asked about any docks with front facing USB ports. The Anker 7 in 1 converted to a dock with a 3D printed case does the trick - but this dock offers it out of the box.
Expensive and hard to get - does it get the job done? Let's find out together

Let me show you what's going on ... and how to fix it.
New update - all that has changed...
The only way to prove the worth of a handheld touchscreen is - in my opinion - to play Nintendo DS "Pac-Pix" on it with a stylus.
Here is how it worked out.
#axisofally #rogally #asusally
We WILL be making some comparisons during this video to the #steamdeck because this channel caters to a very large Deck audience and I think the comparisons are fair and useful.
Note: While power is discussed briefly here, I didn't have the data I needed to offer up the information I had, so it is not included here. A short follow-up video on power, docks and more will be coming (probably later today) to discuss my findings.
#axisofally #asusally #rogally
This version has 30 minutes cut from it, and I have included some helpful tips overlayed at the appropriate times. Also, all cut time has been documented so you know how long each trimmed step ACTUALLY took.
From the sealed box to ready to rock - we'll do everything; all updates (and there are a LOT), bios patches - the works. You will get a TRUE experience of the set up here.
This is still a long video, but hopefully the tips and long cuts being out will make it more palatable.

In this video, we'll cover what I DEMAND in a portable monitor as well as review pretty much the only one I could find on Amazon that checked the most boxes.
We'll check it out for picture quality and sound performance as well as bounce it off the Deck a few different ways - we'll even throw in a Switch test as well.

I was asked to show the Linux version of the itch.io store launcher working on Steam Deck.
We'll install it, log in, install some games and see how it works.
NOTE: This isn't for stand alone Ubisoft Connect app issues - this is for games purchased and run from Steam. In the future, if this video is no longer required, please let me know in the comments so I can depreciate it.
As usual, the honest, Steam-lovin' consumer is being faced with Ubisoft "tween" digital locker issues where the game crashes upon launch thanks to an update.
Warning: This is a nuclear method of updating PROTON EXPERIMENTAL to a bleed edge version (Hotfix and GE were tried in place of - no go; this appears to be a very specific fix Valve is playing with). This could possibly render or harm other games' proton prefixes (where your game saves may be stored) so be sure to back up your other game prefixes BEFORE doing this tutorial.
If you're constantly backing up your saves (or even other things like non-steam shaders), you know it can be a tedious process.
In this video, we adopt a technique to make backing up your commonly-disabled game saves (thanks EA).
Note: Mouse and keyboard are recommended and if you aren't already using Shortix, I recommend you adopt that as it will help you out here A LOT. We will cover the "manual" way briefly, but Shortix is great. You may want to run through my Dolphin File Manager Tricks and Tips as this video has some assumed configurations from that video.

It was time for a refresh of my Battle.net installation tutorial.
In addition to installing Battle.net, we show you a technique for centralizing your game installs outside of the proton prefixes that removes a lot of confusion and limitations.
By popular demand, we'll also show you how to create separate Steam launchers for EACH game you install via Battle.net with maximum efficiency - allowing for separate game controller, proton settings and more.
NOTE: These types of tutorials really commands the use of a mouse and keyboard - it is highly recommended. This video also assumes you have ProtonUp-QT installed as well as some easy Dolphin configurations.

This video will show you how to restore your games to operating order quickly - but more importantly, will show you how to find and backup your saves that are destroyed every time you have to do this "Emergency Fix".
Note: This is for people who own EA games that were purchased and LAUNCH from Steam. If you are using the "stand alone" EA App as a non-steam game, we'll discuss your fix - but it isn't directly included here.
NOTE: I cannot provide nor link where to get the files used for this video. You're on your own with that. I cannot answer any comments asking for the files. Thank you for understanding.
A working Playstation 3 emulator on Deck is required - I will not be setting that up as part of this video. No, I cannot provide the bios files for the PS3 emulator either. Sorry.
Finally, I realize I suck at playing NBA Jam. Been like 20 years ... forgive ...
But the "FS" part unlocks many doors in Windows - thanks to the Deck storage being mounted as a drive letter.

Proton prefix folders are, to many, a complete enigma. Would it be nice to know that the compatdata folder 23423345 really meant "Battle.net" or folder 1232324 was really the EA App launcher?
This quick and easy script will auto-generate clean, easy to use symlinks to your proton folders as revealed by Proton Tricks. It will keep them up to date ever 15 minutes and even remove ones that are no longer in use.
A useful tool for a frustrating task. Note: this won't clean them up for you, but will help you figure out what you need to clean up. See my video:

For those that started playing before the "MTX" moved in, we are really enjoying the game.
So how does the currency work? How much does it cost? How bad is the currency shuffle? What exactly can you buy and is it pay to win? Let's dig deep and see where the microtransaction bodies are buried.
Once we realize these games do work, we're stuck with hard locked 30fps (and look at that artwork ... gag ... :)
Let's take a look at these games, patch up those nasty frame caps and see the glorious Decky Loader SteamGridDB plugin to the hard work.

In this video, we'll use some advanced techniques to reuse the EA App client to launch games that have their own "profiles" in Steam - allowing you to set up system settings, controls, etc. on a per game basis; all while retaining cloud saves and updates.
Note: This video assumes you watched the previous video and have set up EA App in that manner - as well as have installed the game external from the proton prefix.
It is probably a good idea to watch this video on a large screen and have a mouse and keyboard handy as it will make this a lot easier.

While a lot of us have adapted successful to twin stick FPS life, for others this can be a real challenge to accuracy and comfort.
Gryo controls can help close the gap; not quite as precise as a mouse - but far better than a standard stick for aiming.

Someone on Reddit asked how BO4 played on the Deck, so I figured I'd record some game play since I didn't already have any.
Included are Proton settings, etc. I haven't gone into great depth in tweaking settings - letting it do its own thing.
Also, your first run isn't going to be as smooth because shaders have to be built on the fly. Later on in the video you'll see it as I open new areas.
Still - I'll use nothing else. Why? This video will explain why I love the Elite series controllers and well bust open the Core edition to see what you might miss out on if you get the budget unit.

As with any task, there are multiple ways to do this; you could use some other form of intermediate storage (like an external hard drive) but this is probably the easiest way of doing it that ensures your new microSD card is prepared correctly and is ready to go.
