Portal 64 v0.15.0 Longplay (Hardware Capture)

davidevgen 2024-05-06 | Woah its been awile since my last post lol. yes im still alive. i just havent had time for youtube.

Anyways here is portal 64 this is the last build before it got shutdown. i dont respect nintendo at all for this and all the past garbage dmca they do. even though they technically didn't do anything this time. but their past antics is the reason value pulled the plug due to official Lib software being used to make the game.

i recorded this on hardware awile back using my newly hdmi modded n64 with a retro gem shiny that i installed myself in a neon green n64 shell with UV lights to make it glow when turned on. i recorded this using an unconventional way. a hdmi to SDI converter and that streamed into a hyperdeck mini uncompressed. it sounds like a good set up but its not. for whatever reason i couldn't get it to recognize the signal unless i set the game to output interlaced and set it to 1080p even though the device is capable capturing signals from 480i to 1080p 60fps. 500 dollar piece of crap if you ask me. ok to be fair it not designed for game capture i normally use it to capture vhs/beta tapes but it should in theory work fine.

this cancellation really p!ssed me off... but hey, at lease the source code and rom was saved and we got 1/3 of portal on the n64. maybe someone will finish it. i know some are attempting to remove all the nintendo code so maybe... i dont expect it to happen, but if it does great!

New way for No battery mod for n64 rumble pak

davidevgen 2022-08-13 | i recently got a n64 kiosk and the display only rumble pak that came with it has a no bettery mod by nintendo. but this way is much easier than removing a resistor all it takes is a 26 gauge wire and soldering from the plus side battery terminal to the same spot that the resister is soldered to under the EN on the montherboard. aperently the battries were used cause the n64 3.3v line didnt have enough power for 4 rumble paks to run all at once. and only enough for 2.

just thought id share this. as for the n64 kiosk. i got it from vegas via a 500 mile drive its taken a month to restore it. its over all finished but im still trying to get the timer chip to work corectly so mario can finish talking when the game resets. i will make a more detail video on the kiosk later.

btw i actually havent been logged in on this account in roughly 6 months. i stopped logging in cause youtube forced partners to require a smart phone for verifacation every dang time i wanted to log in. i got tired of it and just stopped. i recently logged in just to see if there were any copyright issues and noticed i didnt need my phone to log in so i guess they took that requirement away i suppose. the rating being disable and comments on the kids crap still annoys me...

the playground location is Lincoln Elementary from Vallejo, CA
Wile the running track is a few miles down the road at Vallejo high school.

sorry for the shakiness on the running track part. i had my heavy camera on a tripod and lifted it over a 8 foot fence on my head standing on a cement light post to get the shot. maybe i will revisit with permission to go on the grounds one day. maybe.

McDonalds eCDP DS Password Bypass AR Code

davidevgen 2021-09-06 | Code below. i made this back when the documentary was released because i hate password screens. so now all you need is this code. no save file or password required. all emulator and most flashcarts support ar codes twilight menu too. and to my knowledge the game is fully playable without the save file using this code. however if you run in to an issue just let me know and i'll try to fix it. its really simple code with a checksum when equal to 3 (the password screen) the code over write to 7 (the main menu)

i also posted this video more as a shout out on what ive been doing lately.
ive been working on a blu ray project for John R Dillworth (creator of courage the cowardly dog) to remaster all of his films to hopefully release by Christmas. its been a long time coming but its gonna be epic when its done. you are probably wonder how i got this job? well it started out as mostly a joke at first. i was teasing Dilly that if you don't remaster your films i will. So i did just that with one of his films and sent it to him. he was so impressed he offered me to do all his films! there's around 17 shorts hes made. and being in old beta tape video formats its been a hard learning curve to get them to look good in HD. how do i remastered a SD to HD? well im a beta tester for topaz video AI and use their software and several other software's to get optimum results including alot of manual labor in premier pro. At first i used video x2 which was ok but topaz kicks that out of the water lol. so now you know what ive been up to :P

Anyways heres the code i will be back posting more crap soon but as of now with my computer business virtual boy repair ebay and this project i just dont have time right now.

Anyways heres a video from my home video collection of me and my family visiting the WTCs in april 2001 on my new york trip. i actually posted this 10 years ago but with todays AI technology i was able to restore this to a much higher quality using topaz video AI and other varius programs! im a beta tester for them and have been testing out their software to help improve it.

An Interesting Conversation I had with my Grandpa

My answer is me as a little kid copying my grand dads hulk like sneezes that puts the big bad wolf to shame. why did i do this? im not sure but i think its cause his sneezing startled me as a kid so i would copy him to make it seem less scary. i do remember doing this in this video. there was a wood burning stove and that's why everyone was sneezing, coughing, farting etc. this was recorded Christmas day 1993.

Well nintendo rejected my dispute. Go figures! Well im not putting up with it. so heres the video again. im going to call nintendo's legal department about this. hopefully i get some one that isnt brainwashed by nintendo and is willing to have some compassion. because this is bull crap. its a harmless code for a 15 year old game. i can understand removing roms off website or heck even taking down their music. but game play footage that is 100% fair use and is transformative. i finally got the time to go to Elmore junior high or lincoln high school in San Fransisco. this is the building commonly seen through out the show when gumball and darwin go to school. the building from the show is photoshoped that why it looks different in the show vs reality.

ive been wanting to go here for 5 years i finally made my way to it. its out of the way for me or i would have done this sooner. i even show the inside a little and on the school grounds where the running track is. i did this on sunday so the place was closed.

ive also include my second visit to the watterson's house that i did in march of 2018 which didn't feel very safe to get out this time so i just did a sweep of the street.

(The Story)
I got an interesting story to go along with it too. two and a half years ago in mid 2015 i began work on this texture hack took me 3 days to get it to a a point that it could have been released but then i decided to do something innovative.

I wanted to double and triple the textures resolution in the sky box model (the background of the course) so after talking to some people on dshack.org i found there was a way using mkcm so i tried it. and it worked! except for one problem all the bill boarded faces (buildings) on the model were wiped out and not working (no longer rotating to always face the camera) i asked a few friends to help but kept running to to dead ends so i shelved it for a week to come back to it later. unfortunately i over watch a drama based show on TV and that threw me in to depression for 3 weeks
(that's another long story)

After i got over the depression i thought about going back to finishing the texture hack but since i had just come off of the depression i didn't want to work on it anymore knowing there wasn't anything i could do. i was still unstable and didn't want to get depressed again due to failure of try to get the textures to work. so it was shelved till a year later.

A year later i dug it up and asked Ermelber, Tomix, and Darktone on dshack.org if they could get it working. Ermelber came the closest but still no dice. it got shelved again.

8 months later i tried again this time with SGC and Rover more friends of mine from dshack but still no luck and it got shelved again and again and again till finally in December 2017. i got so sick of running in to dead ends. i finally said screw it took out the building polys in blender and added objects with good draw distant in place of the original poly buildings.

It was finally done! well almost, i fine tuned my hack by tweaking the rainbow road model in a hex editor to remove transparency on the road and even creating a few textures from scratch and also being lazy i finally got it released. so yeah that took awhile... ive got another one on the way and i promise i wont take as long lol.

This hack maxes out the ds ram and cpu it works on hardware and emulators.

The background textures are massive for a ds being 512x256 and 256x256 normal resolution for a ds game is 128x128 and below normally.

Alot of the texture are from f zero GX mute city some textures had to be made from scratch. and some textures are from streets of rage and sonic 2. there only one texture from mkds here and it was modified to have more buildings in the background.

So in a way this almost became a custom track.

USB Powered NES Console Mod!

Yes im still alive and yes im still very active here on youtube. i just havent been posting video much lately due to running a computer store and ebay business. also ever since my computer took a crap the new one had a faulty motherboard and it was out of warranty so i havent has time to replace it. maybe ill just ditch the x99 in favor of the x399 with the new amd threadripper cpu.

Anyway once again im sorry i havent been posting very much but running a business take alot of my time. but don't fret i dont plan to quit youtube any time soon. and i do plan to be more active in the future.

heres a simple mod i did to an nes so i can run it on and USB power source. it works perfectly on an unmodified console. but wont work on an hdmi modded console since the hdmi mod chip requires a bit more juice. id have to make a circut to fix that but for now this is good enough. it actually does work with the hdmi mod kit but has a few graphical issues on certain games.

how to use: press Y to instantly jump to the next item (repeat to jump to next item) hold Y to cycle through all the items automatically.

So the story begins.. i have to admit i didnt make the original code, the code above was originally made by gamemasterplc (on youtube) as a AR version of unlimited speed, i shortened up his version up. ported it to JP roms, and added the reverse speed to it which wasnt very easy cause it required me to reverse engineer the code in its raw form.

He posted this code a few weeks ago to my other unlimited rom speed hack video saying he found it. so i searched the internet thinking he really found it some where and i couldnt find it. i asked him and he later told me that he made it. so after some thought i decided to hunt for the code the controlled the reverse speed limit i found it and then i had to figure out how this code worked. this code is an asm exploit patch that writes to 2 locations in the arm9 cpu (code below 02000000 xxxxxxxx is arm9) i moved the secound address to write to reverse speed limit address and the added my 300cc speed code 4.0 to max the speed out.

DeSmuME ~ DS games in 4k!

davidevgen 2016-04-04 | Desmume 0.9.12 just got alot better! it can now natively render AVI video in 5x HD resolution! SO time to ditch that X432R desmume! ive also figured out the bug that plagued desmume AR cheat engine for many years and got the programmers to fix it! so now code work as they should! anther noticeable feature is the GL texscale option. this allows you to increase the density of the pixels in the texture maps in the game to make the over all quality look even better!

i chose these games to show how the emulator looks with each ds title. Some have low resolution (like diddy kong racing) and some have high resolution (like metroid prime hunters) the open GL Texscale features on 4X looks best on low res games wile 2X looks best on high res games. some games i couldn't run the GL texscale due to graphical errors that still need to be fixed. i remember my friend telling me that MPH looked almost gamecube quality back when it first came out. i would have to agree with him now :P

Desmume has been plagued with a faulty action replay code engine since the beginning. a code i made for mkds 6 month's ago made the bug show its self. at first i thought it was my code but i found it work on hardware so then i thought it was the load and stored ar instruction were faulty in desmumue. i took the bug report to the programmers and they told me it was writing to an area that crashed the game. but i knew that this code worked. so i looked at my code and figured out what was happening. the code i made was a double pointer code which was only active when a blue shell explosion was visible on screen. the pointer data would reset to 00000000 after the explosion disappeared. on an AR device resetting to 00000000 would not effect the code at the 0x00000000 address location due to it only running on the arm7 cpu. in desmume AR codes ran on arm9 and arm7 cpu. arm9 runs code in the regions below 0x02000000.

Because of this then the explosion wasn't active the pointer would write data 0x0000009c right on a critical ASM location witch would crash the game. this was also the cause of other random crash errors wile loading a game with pointer codes. these have all been fixed. so programmers set the AR code to the ARM7 cpu only

The other error was crashing on boot with certain ar codes active. what was happening here was if using for example
02072720 e3a00a13 would crash mkds on boot. this was due to the ar code was loaded before the game could decompress fully and would crash the game. this has also been fixed. these fixes apply to any games that ar codes crashed randomly in emulator.

Also in 60fps 1080p true HD and widescreen. i normally dont post 60fps cause the video quality sucks but theres alot of movement and its sorta hard to see at 30fps.

i threw this together for the heck of it. unfortunately playing in VS or GP mode with all cpu's makes the game crash. this is due to the file being too large for the DS to handle so i had to disable one of the CPU's. The model was restored by PabloMK7 aka mariohack&glitch

ill have too variants of this course to download one version will have all objects removed so you can play with all the cpu's the other will be original so a cpu disabler code will be needed to play on it in GP/VS. i reccomended using the no objects version cause i think thats how the course originally looked. (plus the cpus dont get stuck lol)

Nes 3D Blu-ray player 2.0!

davidevgen 2015-09-18 | I made one of these a few years ago and decided to make another one. this one has full wifi support and can playback all discs (CD DVD Blu ray and 3D Blu ray.) It also has PlayStation now so you can actually play digital games on this one lol! its also got a 4k upscaler in it for blu ray and dvd. and im not sure but it might be capable of streaming 4k video from netflix and other services that offer it.

The N64 Test Cart ~ One of the rarest N64 collector items!

davidevgen 2015-07-05 | i had planned to do this video back in 2011 but when i got side tracked with mkds and mkw hacking i forgot about doing it lol. this is a quick video of the n64 test cartridge what it looks like physically and all its test functions. these carts were used only by nintendo technicians to test the n64 and were not available to the public.
there are 2 version of this test cart rev A and rev B rev B just had a few extra sound test for the n64. this is the rev A version.

These are extremely hard to find now and only show on ebay once every several years. i got mine for free it was thrown in when i bought some test equipment (the nes test station and snes counter tester for 600 dollars)

And dont worry i got another texture mod for mkds coming up and a few other vids.

Me and Dark Light (from DSHack.org) worked to fix this course. he made the KCl file and i redid the final version of rainbow road's nkm file to make this work. (it was a pain to the donkey to do.)

nokonoko course model has been dropped down so the water shows without any codes.

mini block course has an intro camera now.
optimized files and did a clean up of un needed files.
All battle courses load with 3 balloons instead of one
Due to these optimizations texture and color AR codes are no longer compatible with beta courses.

test1 course has been changed out completely with an accurate model that matches its collisions model file which mean you will be able to see what the course originally looked like. making it alot more fun to play on.

Every beta course in HD widescreen using desumue X432R (not including courses with minor differences). i also fixed them to make them stable on emulators and flash cards and fixed some graphic errors in the final version of mkds. i did borrow mkdasher's fixed respawns for nokonoko and dokan course. and then fixed the rest of the beta course respawn points myself . so none of them crash if you fall off.
i consider this to be version 3.0 of my mkds unlimited speed hacked r0m. it will act like a normal usa mkd$ r0m unless you use this code here to make all beta courses assessable through VS, time trial and battle, mode. (not including the beta courses from mkds demo r0m) AR texture code are backwards compatible with this r0m if you wish to use them.

previous 2.0 fixes:

Luigi course: bound and flipper objects replaced with fixed beta bound and flipper objects
(fixed by Yawshi on dshack.org)

Pinball beta course: Flipper object replaced with original fixed beta flipper.

Test circle: Now load up with 5 laps instead of 1 lap for longer play and has 2 extra item boxes added and centered on the course.

Music: Original beta CIRCUIT2.SEQ music (the music you hear through most my video) has been ported over to my custom game so now the beta music actually plays!

MKDS ~ GCN Mario Circuit beta Finished with all objects & fixed

davidevgen 2015-03-30 | Took a little wile to do. when nintendo was making mkds gcn mario circuit was going to be in the game as a playable course. for whatever reason it was scrapped in mid development. so the course objects were never added and the Road data never completed.

Now its finished all the object are accurately placed and sized. the off road values have been set. background moves etc.

up next is the beta courses i have fixed and made all of them stable. ill have a video with a download for that soon. just gotta make a video for it.

Mario Kart DS ~ Sky Garden Texture Hack (Cyber Space Station)

MKDS Rainbow Road with high quality textures.

davidevgen 2015-02-07 | i swap out a few textures with better quality texture. turns out the backgrounds native size is 256 x 256 which is large considering the ds native resolution is really low lol. so i swap out the background with a texture from the ultra grid disney ultimate ride pc game. and the road and rail texture is from mkw. i also enhanced the milky way star texture in the background to make it more noticeable.

i was going to post this at 60fps but i tested it out and the framerate is a bit better but the quality of the video was really crappy. even at 1080p so screw that im sticking with 30fps, for now.

davidevgen 2014-12-03 | All master hand and final destination battles from 1999 to 2014, in 4k. recording in 4k is a real pain lol. so i have a question for u all. this and the last video was just me experimenting with video formats. would you all rather i upload in 1080p or 1440p at 60fps? or continue in 4k? not all game are 60fps capable, especially older games.

davidevgen 2014-11-20 | i know it saids 2014 but since the nintendo switch mario kart 8 deluxe rainbow roads are exactly the same as the wii U other than having new characters i will do an actual update when either mk9 comes out or mk8D get some DLC with a new rainbow road.
