Firing an Anvil in Black Rock City EVERYWHEREsometimes 2012-09-28 | Did you ever wonder how urgent messages back in the day? One method was to fire an anvil! The process was fairly simple: A hole a few inches in diameter was drilled in one anvil and filled with black powder. A second anvil was placed on top with a playing card between to use as a gasket. When the powder was ignited the sound of the explosion served as an immediate call to friends miles away.This video was taken in Black Rock city a few days before all the people showed up. The anvil was about 120 pounds. Any physics types out there want to tell us how high it went?

Jessica welding a neck section of the Phoenix EVERYWHEREsometimes 2010-06-15 | It doesn't look like much yet, but finishing this little egg shaped hoop was a big step forward for us. It will be one of four cross sections of the Phoenix's neck. The piece was cold formed from straight 5/8" SS square stock with a hammer and vice in two sections. These sections were mechanically joined with small inserts and then welded together.
