What if God's answer to humanity's inability to remain faithful was not more rules—but a completely new work within us?
After Israel's division, exile, and scattering, it appeared that everything God had established through Abraham, Israel, and David was unraveling.
But God had not abandoned His covenant.
In the midst of judgment, He spoke an extraordinary promise through the prophets:
He would gather His people again.
He would give them a new heart.
He would put a new spirit within them.
And He would put His own Spirit within them.

Jeremiah describes a covenant no longer written merely on stone, but written upon the heart. Ezekiel describes a people gathered from the nations, cleansed and transformed from within:

The problem was never that God's covenant was deficient. The problem was that the human heart could not remain aligned with Him.

And what Jeremiah and Ezekiel could only see prophetically would ultimately be made available through Jesus Christ and the giving of the Holy Spirit.
The conversation also raises a deeply personal question:
What do we have to let go of—even things that may have been good—in order to receive the fullness of what God desires to do within us?
As Matt shares in this conversation, our natural tendency is to measure Christianity by what is outward—what we do, how things appear, whether we are succeeding, and even how others behave.
But God keeps drawing us inward.
Not so that the outward no longer matters, but so that the outward can finally flow from the life of Christ within.

A divided people made one.
And God dwelling with His people.
