Last time, we created the track using dowels and dadoes to let our base and cradle slide smoothly. Today, we’re connecting this to the miter slot. There are two ways we can do this, and both are very easy to accomplish. The first way is to use a miter gauge. By adding a second piece of plywood to the top, we can trace the back of the miter gauge and hog out dadoes. Once that’s done, we’ll glue it in place and use hanger bolts to secure it to the miter gauge.
The second method is to use the table saw to hog out a channel for a miter bar. After that, we’ll square up the edge to eliminate any errors the sled might introduce.
If you’re going to use the second method, we’ll need a handle, which we can create out of a hollowed out piece of stock. I angled the edges to keep it ergonomic, cut it in half and glued it together. This fits on a small platform that attached to the miter bar.
