Creating tenons for joints isn’t always easy.
In the past, I’d use my table saw with a miter gauge to chip away at the tenon slowly. It works—but it takes several passes. If we use a bandsaw, we’ll end up with chewed-up faces.
Table saw blades give the cleanest cuts, so that’s what we’re sticking with.
To make a tenoning jig, we’ll need three main parts:
1. A base that attaches either to a miter gauge or a hand made handle.
2. A fence to clamp the stock securely to, with a cradle that slides smoothly on the base.
3. A stop block that fits on the fence to keep the stock upright. This block needs to slide up, down, and out of the way—which we’ll achieve using a t-track and a hollowed-out piece of stock.
In the next video, we’ll create the tracks for the carriage to slide on.
