The introduction with cutscenes and tutorial style gameplay. Sly Cooper infiltrates Carmelita's office in Paris France to steal a case file from her safe. However, she confronts him and attempts to capture our hero Sly Cooper. After escaping in the Van, we see the life story of Sly and his family being attacked and the Thievious Racconus being torn up and split between the fiendish five. Murray and Bentley are introduced as well. After making it to the hideout.. the first mission is prepared.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (Sly Raccoon in Europe and Australia and Kaitō Sly Cooper (怪盗スライ・クーパー?, lit. "Phantom Thief Sly Cooper") in Japan) is a platforming video game created by Sucker Punch Productions, and released on the Sony PlayStation 2 in 2002, subsequently republished as a "Greatest Hits" title. The game was followed by two sequels, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.
The game focuses on the eponymous protagonists and master thieves Sly Cooper and his gang, Bentley the Turtle and Murray the Hippo, as they seek out the Fiendish Five to recover his family's "Thievius Raccoonus", a book with the accumulation of all of Sly ancestors' thieving moves. The game was praised for using a variation on cel-shading rendering, which is used to create a film noir feel, while still rendered as an animated movie, though criticized for being too short.
The world of Sly Cooper is a version of the real world that is populated by anthropomorphic animals, with film noir and comic book motifs. The focus of the story is of Sly Cooper, a young adult raccoon and the latest descendant in a line of master thieves who pass down their expert techniques from generation to generation using the "Thievius Racoonus," a book which contains all the Cooper family's secrets and tricks. While the Cooper family has accumulated a massive amount of wealth through their thieving ways, Sly places greater value on his friendship with his partners, Bentley and Murray, and his flirting and teasing relationship with Inspector Carmelita Fox.
