Hardest Route in Italy | Wonderland 9b/9b+ | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2022-06-29 | Even though the crag is called Terra Promessa (Promised Land), I hadn't thought that it would once host Arco's and Italy's hardest route ⚡. The hard routes around 8b and 8c were developed mainly by Reini Scherer in the late 90s and since the development of this crag has mostly stopped. There were still quite a few spots where the rock was untouched, but the question was if it would go. Alfredo Webber, once again, saw this wonderful line, put the effort, and placed the bolts, but the question mark was about the very beginning. I found a detour slightly to the left using a few very slopy pinches and tiny crimps, replaced 3 bolts, and it was obvious that line was possible!We worked on the route for a few days in the autumn with @steghiso. Eventually, I felt I was quite close to sending, but despite this winter being extremely dry, this crag is not exactly winter crag and the crucial tufa kept seeping. First Free Climb of Underground Big Wall | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2023-01-18 | It is often that people are travelling halfway around the world for anadventure, even though there are some epic adventures almost in yourbackyard. Macocha is this massive hole, an abyss that is 138m deep, inthe middle of Moravsky Kras (Czechia, Europe). Deep at the bottom, there is a massivearch that had never been free-climbed. Undoubtedly the longest andsteepest wall in the whole country, in the most bizarre location. Itis usually climbed within a few days as an aidclimb during special5-day window every December when it is allowed to climb here uponspecial permission.Look at the video featuring me climbing a route called Příklepovýstrop, an adventurous 5-pitch route up to 8b+, full of rusty pegs andbolts and surprisingly excellent climbing. This Is B I G | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2022-12-28 | Project Big is a line that I bolted in 2013. It has always seemed like the most improbable part of the Flatanger (Norway) cave, looking just too intimidating to be climbed. Bolting it and finding out that there were actually holds was just mind-blowing, yet I was still too intimidated actually to start trying it for many years! At the same time, I knew that line was too perfect just to let it go. I was sure that one day I just had to climb it. Climbing with Jo Nesbø: Why the H*** Am I Doing This? | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2022-12-14 | Climbing has become a fairly big sport, and it is not surprising that even world-famous people in various subjects also climb! ⚡ I had the pleasure to climb with Jo Nesbo, an excellent writer of novels who started climbing only 10 years and in his 60s, he is very close to reaching grade 8a! I took him to a special place close to my hometown called Pálava (Moravian region, Czechia), where steep limestone cliffs go from the vineyards. We climbed a multi-pitch route together, which happened to be his first multi-pitch ever which was a big honor for me. Jo is one of those guys that you feel very comfortable with from the first word, and Jo is a great example that you can be a total climbing freak yet still very successful in a completely different career. Derava skala (The Leaky Rock) is a small dark cave that has been neglected for many years despite the first free climbing routes being developed in the 80s. I did not like it myself the first time I saw it 20 years ago. Can Will Bosi Repeat Adams 9a Route from 2007? | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2022-07-13 | When Will Bosi typed me a message that he was planning a trip to the Czech Republic and to visit my homecrag Moravský Kras (Moravian Karst), it took me a while to believe he really meant it. 2 months later, he quickly dispatched quick ascents of many of the hardest boulder problems, but I was especially curious about some of the routes. Sport climbing in Moravský Kras is usually even more weird, complex and beta-intense than local bouldering. Perla východu is a 9a that I first ascended when I was 14 years old and it hadn't seen a repetition. It is a proud line (trust me, it really is, unlike many other lines at my homecrag!) and Will had to put up a fight. Last Great Lines? | Bomba 9b & Bombardino 9a+/9b | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2022-04-11 | A perfectly cut, steep and exposed line in the vicinity of Arco, with perfect blue and grey limestone and impeccable tufas, has attracted me since I first noticed it. In 2012, I could bolt the last great line to the right of the wall. A series of 3 beautiful tufa features, with just enough holds in between them. But once the last tufa finishes, it remained a mystery. I bolted it, but I could not really think of any sequence to make that section climbable. I abandoned the project, and 10 years later, I was back to see if something had changed. With a new perspective and experience, I could finally see a way how to pass through this section while I got also distracted by a bit easier variation, which turned out to be not easy at all. Watch the story of Bomba 9b, and it's a slightly easier variation of Bombardino 9a+/ 9b in the new video! Featuring also Jakob Schubert, Pietro del Pra and Alfredo Webber. It was a great process of spending there great days with my friends, bolting together, being motivated to deal with often freezing conditions, and sharing the beta. 9a Project Climbed After 27 Years | Absolutorium 9a FA | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2022-01-19 | Beckov (Slovakia) was a “fashionable” crag in the late ’80s and early ’90s. You can see this gigantic 50meter high piece of rock with a well-preserved castle on the top. In 1994, Tomáš Pilka, nicknamed Svišť (means marmot), bolted the whole line of this overhanging feature, starting from the obvious ledge 20meters above the ground. He gave it a provisional name Dlouhá trasa (Long way). Last year in June, I checked out the moves in the project. I was blown away by the beauty but could not send it anymore. I returned here after 17 months. In the meantime, Mišo Makušiniec was putting some serious effort into the project. Thanks to Mišo, the project was cleaned, chalked and ready. The route is now called Absolutorium 9a (first ascent), and it is definitely one of the nicest 9a’s in former Czechoslovakia (Czechia and Slovakia have been separated since 1993). I Made My First Climbing Hold Ever | Adam Ondra & Euroholds Adam Ondra 2021-11-17 | Welcome to Xàtiva! A small town nearby Valencia, Spain, with 30 thousand inhabitants, a nice historical feeling, and the home of a top-notch climbing holds company @Euroholds. I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of great, hard-working, open-minded people here who are involved in the climbing holds movement. It ain't just the holds we are so excited about, but also the possibilities in how we can communicate what we work on. I spent countless hours and days perfecting my skills and techniques on how to train better, more efficiently, and in such a way as to minimize any injuries. I enjoy every bit of it, no matter how excruciatingly tiring the training might sometimes be. It's all part of the never-ending learning process. Back to the Rocks | Thulium 8c, Commented Climb by Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2021-11-01 | In the small mountains of Chřiby, there is an iconic sandstone free-standing tower called Kozel. Even though Czechia is famous for sandstone climbing, most traditional sands stone climbing is located in the northwest. In the eastern part of the Country, in Moravia, we have very little sandstone, but this tower is definitely a gem.This last unsolved problem on Kozel has been there for many years. Perfectly sculpted rounded arete that looked too impossible to be climbed. Last weekend I decided to check it out. KO Boulder & Duel Lead Climbing | Rock Master 2021 in Arco, Italy | Adam Ondra Adam Ondra 2021-09-08 | Wow, that was Rock Master 2021. After a one-year break, we met with other friends from all over Europe (including Martin Stráník and Eliška Adamovská) in my favorite Arco, near Lago di Garda. Rock Master is a competition with the longest history in sport climbing. I dreamed about this competition since I was a little boy. It's just that kind of event that every climber wants to be a part of.This year's combination of KO boulder and lead duel gave rise to so many great emotions. I think that route setters managed to set interesting boulder problems and a challenging lead route. Anyway, the climbers and spectators had a lot of fun until late in the evening. In the KO boulder, I won thanks to topping 2 boulder problems, 1 and 4! In the lead duel, after a very close defeat in the semifinal with Michael Piccolruaz (ITA), I ended 3rd. The lead duel was eventually won by Stefano Ghisolfi. After adding up the results from KO boulder and lead duel, I took the 6th trophy from Rock Master home. It's a great honor for me. Among the women, it ended up in a tie between Vita Lukan and Jessica Pilz.Check out the first of the 2 videos from the Rock Master.
