NightMind, Trevor Henderson & more | DocumentaryAlex Hera2024-06-28 | In 2012, the horror character Slenderman exploded on the internet, becoming a beloved symbol across horror, video games, memes, independent art movements, and even Hollywood films. However, none of this was to last, as the movement behind Slenderman came crashing down in the wake of the 2014 Waukesha Slenderman Stabbing; a national news story centered around two children stabbing their classmate as an attempted sacrifice to Slenderman.
'Slenderverse: The Rise and Fall of Slenderman' from director Alex Hera reveals new perspectives on how Slenderman developed into a viral icon, and how the artistic movement known as the Slenderverse was torn apart by a horrific true crime carried out in the name of the Slenderman, poorly received adaptations of the character, and the corruption of their movement from the inside. This is the story of the artists behind the icon… and the true, untold history of the Slenderman.
The third film of “Slenderverse: A Documentary Film Series”, a three film series which tells the dramatic history of the independent artists behind the Slenderverse movement and documents Slenderman’s rise as an independent horror icon, and fall to the status of a dangerous internet meme through interviews with 19 internet horror legends, extensive live action reenactments, and exclusive archival content.

NightMind, Tim Sutton, Evan Jennings | DocumentaryAlex Hera2024-06-21 | In the early 2010's, internet horror icon Slenderman became the centerpiece of a rapidly evolving artistic movement, forming what is known as 'The Slenderverse'. On the surface, the Slenderverse appeared to be a Marvel-style cinematic universe; an interconnected mythology of independent art projects. However, unbeknownst to the general public, creators congregated under the umbrella of the private ‘Slenderverse Creators’ community and formed an online artistic collective unlike any seen before at the time of its creation in 2011.
"Slenderverse: An Artistic Movement" from director Alex Hera reveals the hidden stories of how Slenderman was developed into a viral icon by these creators. Through never-before-seen archival content, access to the private community, and interviews with Chris Hammarberg and Heather Mooch of "DarkHarvest00", Dylan Sindelar of "MLAndersen0", Marissa Botelho of "Tulpa Effect", Lee Esposito of "Whispered Faith", Valeria Santiago of "Stan Frederick", as well Tim Sutton of "Marble Hornets", Evan Jennings of "EverymanHYBRID" and internet horror influencer Night Mind, the truth about this artistic movement - as well as the lives and relationships of these creators - is unveiled for the first time.

NightMind, Trevor Henderson, Tim Sutton | DocumentaryAlex Hera2024-06-14 | In 2009, Slenderman sparked a revolution in independent online creation and spawned a legacy that inspires artists to this day.
"Slenderverse: Building the Slenderman" from director Alex Hera chronicles the untold story of the Slenderverse: the biggest internet horror movement of the 2010’s, centered around the viral icon Slenderman. The film reveals new information and stories about the development of the Slenderman myth, from its birth on the SomethingAwful forums, development through webseries Marble Hornets & EverymanHYBRID, and a network of immersive blogs.
Through incisive interviews with Slenderverse community members including Tim Sutton of “Marble Hornets”, Jeffery Koval and Evan Jennings of “EverymanHYBRID”, Slenderman blog authors Andrew Koerner and Tom Horan, internet horror influencer Night Mind, as well as famed horror artist Trevor Henderson, “Slenderverse: Building the Slenderman” tells a story of collaborative mythmaking and horror on the early internet.

"What I Remember" is my attempt at experimenting with the boundaries of found footage, utilizing grounded drama within the style of found footage to create an immersive and unique experience. I began working on this in January 2023 alongside my next documentary, and it grew to become an incredibly special project to me. I fell in love with these characters, this world, and the way I was able to translate much of what I love about Unfiction into a new form. I'm delighted that I was able to share this at the Unnamed Footage Film Festival in 2024, and that I'm able to share it with you now. I intend to expand upon "What I Remember" in the future - but you'll have to wait and see!

Hopefully my lessons and thoughts have some value to other indie filmmakers out there and help you learn how to make films in some aspects, including audio, scheduling, and working with actors!

On November 7, 2021, it came to a close. The year that I spent working on it has been one of the best of my life...but also one of the worst, with a pandemic, personal issues, the pressure of filmmaking, and the stress of orchestrating a 100 episode multimedia project completely on my own.
In this feature length documentary film, I go in depth on the personal journey that I went on in order to create my first ARG, as well as how to avoid my mistakes...or follow in my footsteps and make an ARG of your own.

There were quite a lot, but all of them helped me to better understand how filmmaking works and how to improve. I hope you enjoy watching this video and hearing me talk about them!
This is my first time trying to make a Video Essay but I'm honestly pretty happy with how this turned out. I hope it's good and I'll probably continue to make this type of content every once in a while. Uploading once every 3 months on this channel isn't really a great strategy.About Me | Short FilmAlex Hera2020-09-27 | I've been uploading random stuff to this channel for a while now, and I figure that now is as good a time as any to introduce myself on a more personal level, instead of just showing myself through random short films and the descriptions. Perhaps nobody cares, but regardless, here's a short film about my life - how it is, what's important to me, what my interests are, etc. I'm honestly proud of how this short came out and I think overall it's really cool and showcases who I am well. Obviously it has flaws (ex: pacing) and isn't perfect but I'm proud of it regardless.Isolation | Short FilmAlex Hera2020-05-17 | Disaster Distress Helpline: 800-985-5990
In an effort to keep myself busy during self isolation, I made this short film completely on my own in quarantine. In the end I wanted to demonstrate that the impact of COVID-19 and quarantine itself reaches far further than just the virus, and is leading to an additional crisis of mental health issues. I did my best to tackle this in a respectful, accurate manner. I do think that the end result, while flawed, has some redeeming qualities, and I am very proud of several shots and aspects of this short.
Cast and Crew ------------------------ All Roles - Alex HeraWe Are Born When We Die | Fan-Made Music VideoAlex Hera2020-04-13 | This is a fan-made music video for the song "We Are Born When We Die" by Apollo Sunshine.
Recently (before quarantine), I was given a challenge - to do a music video on any song of my choosing, with few restrictions on the content. This is what I came up with, practicing shots on my GH5.
I've always loved this song just because of the atmosphere of it that is just really enjoyable, and I wanted to try to translate that atmosphere and the ideas of the song into something visual.
This isn't the only thing I've shot in the past 4 months since my last upload, but it's the only thing that I deem good enough to be uploaded so far and I'm really proud of some of these shots. Obviously it's not perfect and has a lot of flaws but I tried some new things and I honestly think it turned out pretty well, save for a few shots.
