Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:At approximately 11 am, SAPD officers were at the location after receiving a tip that a suspect wanted for multiple warrants was staying at the hotel. After several hours of conducting surveillance, officers observed the suspect enter the vehicle he was known to drive. A detective, wearing a tactical vest that was labeled with “POLICE” on the front and back, quickly approached and ordered the suspect to show his hands. The suspect fled on foot holding a gun in his hand. As officers chased the suspect on foot, uniformed officers in two subdued marked patrol vehicles made the location to assist in apprehending the suspect. The suspect continued to run towards the access road. Officers in one of the patrol vehicles saw the suspect running in their direction with a gun in his hand and drew their firearms. The officer driving the vehicle slowed down and shot twice through the windshield of the patrol vehicle, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Both the SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit are conducting separate and concurrent inquiries. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:While on patrol, two officers assigned with the SAPD Covert Response Unit, received information on the location of a suspect, who was wanted on 4 warrants for Aggravated Robbery. Both officers, each in a separate vehicle, drove to the rear of the apartment complex to apprehend the suspect. As the first officer arrived, the suspect began walking away from the officer while having his left hand in his pocket. The suspect drove the wrong way on IH 10 E access road and crashed into a civilian vehicle and then fled on foot as officers ran after him. Two officers shot multiple rounds at the suspect who continued to run down a grassy embankment onto the main lanes of IH 10 E. The driver of the stolen vehicle exited the front passenger door and fled on foot. The second suspect exited the vehicle but was quickly apprehended. An undercover detective ran after the suspect and ordered him to stop. The suspect continued to flee from police and then reached into his clothing to retrieve a handgun. A single gunshot was heard, and an undercover detective fell to the ground. An officer, who observed the detective fall after hearing the gunshot, drew his weapon and fired multiple rounds at the suspect who was running with a gun in his hand. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:While on patrol, two officers assigned with the SAPD Covert Response Unit, received information on the location of a suspect, who was wanted on 4 warrants for Aggravated Robbery. Both officers, each in a separate vehicle, drove to the rear of the apartment complex to apprehend the suspect. As the first officer arrived, the suspect began walking away from the officer while having his left hand in his pocket. The officer gave him commands to show him his hands and the suspect removed a cell phone from his left pocket. Officers continued to give commands when the suspect turned and began to walk away from the officers, while reaching into his front pockets. One officer deployed his Taser on the suspect, causing the suspect to fall forward. As the suspect fell, he rotated his body around, pointing a firearm at both officers. Both officers discharged their firearms at the suspect, striking him. San Antonio Police Department Critical Incident Video Release: 6900 Block of IH-35 San Antonio Police Department 2023-08-08 | Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, the department, today, released video from the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:At approximately 11 am, SAPD officers were at the location after receiving a tip that a suspect wanted for multiple warrants was staying at the hotel. After several hours of conducting surveillance, officers observed the suspect enter the vehicle he was known to drive. A detective, wearing a tactical vest that was labeled with “POLICE” on the front and back, quickly approached and ordered the suspect to show his hands. The suspect fled on foot holding a gun in his hand. As officers chased the suspect on foot, uniformed officers in two subdued marked patrol vehicles made the location to assist in apprehending the suspect. The suspect continued to run towards the access road. Officers in one of the patrol vehicles saw the suspect running in their direction with a gun in his hand and drew their firearms. The officer driving the vehicle slowed down and shot twice through the windshield of the patrol vehicle, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Both the SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit are conducting separate and concurrent inquiries. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:Just after midnight, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex at the 6200 block of Old Pearsall Rd for a disturbance involving a woman who was destroying property at the apartment complex. As officers were trying to identify the 46-year-old woman in the apartment complex, she walked away and then began to run to her apartment, locking herself inside. Officers began communicating with her through the window on her patio. After several minutes, the woman threw a glass candle through the window striking one of the officers. Officers observed the female grab a hammer inside the apartment. One officer drew his weapon and notified dispatch that he had the woman at gunpoint and additional officers arrived at the scene. Officers continued to talk to her to try to get her to come out of the residence. Two officers jumped over the patio railing at which point the woman ran forward with the hammer towards the window striking it and shattering it. One officer drew his firearm and fired several shots at the female. The woman retreated backwards during the first round of gunshots but soon after came towards the patio door, still holding the hammer in her hand. At this time, two other officers shot towards the woman, along with the first officer who fired the first round of gunshots striking her. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS and was identified as Melissa Perez.Both the SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit are conducting separate and concurrent inquiries. San Antonio Police Department: Critical Incident Video Release 2100 Block of SW Loop 410 San Antonio Police Department 2023-02-22 | Consistent with the Department's Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, the Department, today, released video from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident: On January 24, 2023 at approximately 10:50 pm, two officers were patrolling in the same vehicle and stopped in the parking lot of a motel at the 2100 block of SW Loop 410. The officers contacted the occupants of a van that was parked in the parking lot. The initiating officer asked the suspect, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, to step out of the vehicle because he observed knives in his immediate vicinity. While trying to identify the suspect, the partnering officer asked the suspect what he had in his jacket pocket and was handed a black pouch by the suspect. The partnering officer found a plastic baggie inside the pouch containing what he believed to be narcotics residue. The partnering officer attempted to detain the suspect and place him in handcuffs when the suspect physically resisted and pulled a handgun from a holster. The suspect fired two rounds at the partnering officer. The initiating officer ran around the van to assist the partnering officer who was struggling with the armed suspect. The initiating officer fired two rounds, striking the suspect. Officers immediately began performing life saving measures, however, the 50-year-old suspect, Edward Nandin, died at the scene from his injuries. No officers were injured during this incident. The vehicle, which was not related to the disturbance call, was occupied by a male, 17-year-old driver driver, and a female passenger. The Officer abruptly opened the driver’s door and ordered the driver out of the car. The officer reported that he was hit by the open door as the driver started to reverse the vehicle. The officer then stepped back and opened fire on the vehicle as the driver continued to reverse away from him. The driver shifted the vehicle to drive and then turned away from the Officer to leave. The Officer shot several more times at the fleeing vehicle and then ran after the vehicle. The driver suffered multiple gunshot wounds. His passenger was uninjured. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus has determined that the actions of the probationary officer during this critical incident were in violation of departmental tactics, training, and procedures. The Department's Shooting Team is finalizing its investigation and will forward its findings to the Bexar County District Attorney’s office for an independent investigation. As of this publication, the investigation remains ongoing.

The officer then stepped back and opened fire on the vehicle as the driver continued to reverse away from him. The driver shifted the vehicle to drive and then turned away from the Officer to leave. The Officer shot several more times at the fleeing vehicle and then ran after the vehicle. The driver suffered multiple gunshot wounds. His passenger was uninjured. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus has determined that the actions of the probationary officer during this critical incident were in violation of departmental tactics, training, and procedures. The Department's Shooting Team is finalizing its investigation and will forward its findings to the Bexar County District Attorney’s office for an independent investigation. As of this publication, the investigation remains ongoing.
