Drew Brophy🌟A talk I gave in Costa Rica about my Near Death Experience (NDE) last year while hospitalized for nearly 5 months, on a ventilator for 70 days, in a medically induced coma for 4 weeks.
I saw that we are so much more than just these bodies, that we are more powerful than we know and that death is a seamless journey from this earthly body to all-that-is.
This was my first public talk about the experience; to a group of musicians, artists and innovators during a private Art, Music and Healing retreat in Nov, 2022. During the retreat my wife and I did a plant medicine journey - the experience was very much like my NDE. This was one year after being admitted to the hospital on Nov 14, 2021, where my difficult journey began.
I hope this video inspires you and reminds you how powerful you really are. Your thoughts, your prayers and your will are immensely impactful. Your intentions mean something.

Description of the event: "Drew was a healthy, robust athlete and successful entrepreneur when he was hospitalized with Covid Pneumonia in Nov 2021. He was put in an induced coma for 4 weeks, on a ventilator for 70 days and in the hospital for 112 days. He was not expected to live.
When news broke out, family, friends and the surfing community around the world sprinted into action to help the Brophys survive the unimaginable. Donations of time, money, meals and healing services poured in. Prayer groups and circles formed by the thousands. Medical professionals and experienced advocates helped guide Maria to fight for healing therapies for Drew.
While in a coma, Drew experienced a Near Death Experience (NDE). As Maria led the fight for him on the outside, he fought on the inside. And all those who loved him prayed and sent healing energies from around the globe.
Drew beat all odds and survived the vent and came home in a wheelchair in March of 2022. His doctors said he would never breathe without the help of an oxygen concentrator in his nose 24-7.
Now, 14 months later, Drew is working, surfing and breathing air on his own. His story is one of an absolute miracle."

The inspiration behind my portion of the art came from my Near Death Experience (see video describing that here: youtu.be/-3L9JLHEG34 ).
When I think of all the energy and expertise that has gone into this surfboard I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Gerry, Brad, and Phil have all had huge impacts on my life.
To have this project interrupted by my journey to the other side must have been my destiny. The insight passed on to me through the experience is difficult to articulate.
I instantly felt part of everything and everyone. We all are pure energy and creative potential, never dying.
We are all connected to some kind of universal mind exploring every potential for the experience itself. There is no good or bad, there is no one to save, each unique experience is for the whole. We seek Contrast.
Have joy when you see it in others, feel inspired when you see someone achieve greatness, and have compassion when you see someone going through something horrible.
Everything is the mind, so be ultra present, strive to tap into this collective mind. The clarity is liberating and the peace is blissful.
Riding Waves forces you to be ultra present, it is like riding raw energy, the heart beat of the planet.
Surfing Pipeline, famous for its giant tubes is like being One with the Universe, for a brief moment time slows down to crawl and you can see every drop of water falling over you.
The miracle of the human body and mind to navigate such immense amounts of energy so beautifully was the closest I had ever come to God. Until my near death experience...where I was shown that I am not separate from the energy, I am part of it. We all are.
You are never alone, there is no darkness, there is nothing to fear.
We are the light.
ABOUT THE SURFBOARD COLLABORATION: Shaped by Gerry Lopez, known as Mr. Pipeline, is an absolute legend in the surfing world for both shaping and surfing (he's also an accomplished actor and author). There is a long waiting list for a surfboard shaped by Gerry Lopez.
Portrait of Drew surfing in the center is painted by Phil Roberts, the "Da Vinci" of fine art in the surfing world. Phil has designed and painted the Pipeline Masters Surfboard Trophies for decades. His work is collected by the who's who of surfing, including Kelly Slater.
Color Laminated by Brad Basham, a master craftsman and the founder of Basham's Surf Shop. He remains an iconic figure in the San Clemente Surf Community. He died suddenly and tragically in March 2022, leaving us with a big loss in the surf world.
This work of art is a collaboration between Phil Roberts and Drew Brophy on a Pipeline Gun shaped board by Gerry Lopez, color laminated by Brad Basham.
The center of the painting is a Phil Robert's portrait of Drew Brophy surfing Pipeline (taken from a photo reference of Drew surfing in the late 1990's).
The top and bottom of the deck was painted by Drew Brophy, illustrating Drew's near-death experience when in a 4 week coma, on a ventilator in late 2021 and early 2022.

I have great news and I wanted to proclaim my deepest gratitude to all who have supported my family and I during this impossible journey.
After 4-1/2 months in the hospital, coming home in a wheelchair on oxygen 24-7 and learning to eat, talk and walk again, I am humbled by the vast number of people it took to save my life.
I am empowered by the strength and integrity of my community, friends and fans.
I am most impressed by my wife Maria, who valiantly stood over me like a guardian angel.
I've been home from the hospital for 5 months and I'm walking and finally surfing again (and off all meds and oxygen!), but I still have a LONG way to go before I am fully recovered.
Think of me as strong again; it will drive me to total recovery.
The video is long but there are many people to thank. There were so many, that I couldn't possibly name everyone. If I didn't name you, please know that you are appreciated for your prayers and help. I couldn't have survived without you.

There are many steps required to created a custom painted surfboard. I had to use multiple disciplines that I learned over the years (including my favorite, Posca). Surfboards are still hand made and hand painted, they are celebrations of craftsmanship and artistry. I am thankful to my teachers from all over the world who taught me subtle techniques and tricks to create boards like this. I started with a beautiful 7’6” light blue resin tinted, twin fin, retro cruiser shaped by Chris Christenson.
That’s Kai Lenny in the painting; he’s a Tag Heuer ambassador and was their honored guest at the grand opening event. He even added a little paint to the board, just for fun.
This was a great project; I love working with brands and people that are excited to allow me to do my best, quality work.
I take on only 12 fine art surfboard paintings a year. Call or text my gallery at 949-678-8133 if you want one of them to be yours!

The collector/owner delivered the painting to my gallery from Los Angeles. I hadn't seen PURE JOY since he bought it at the Surf Gallery in Laguna Beach in 2001.
It was like welcoming an old friend back home. PURE JOY has become one of my most iconic paintings. It has been printed on magazine covers, many different products, and we've sold thousands of prints of it over the years, all over the world.
PURE JOY is a very important piece in my museum exhibition this summer, as it marks the start of a change in my art from angry and edgy to love and joy. It's no coincidence that it was the same year my son Dylan was born.
ABOUT THE MUSEUM EXHIBIT:
I'm honored to be The Myrtle Beach Art Museum's featured artist of 2018. I am excited to exhibit over 30 years of my work in a museum, right in the town I grew up in.
Preparing for an exhibit of this size is a huge task. Original paintings, sketches and surfboard paintings, ranging from my high school years to the present, will be displayed in a space of over 1700 square feet and in 7 different "gallery" rooms.
I'm gathering over 70 pieces of art from collectors all over the country, most of which sold a long time ago.
It feels surreal, going through all of my old sketches and works. Luckily, I saved almost everything going back to my high school days.
In the early days, my art wasn't even that good. In the Retrospective exhibit, people will be able to see the progression of my work as they walk from room to room - all 7 rooms will represent a place in time.
If you're near South Carolina this summer, consider coming to the exhibit. Maria and I will be there the first 2 weeks, giving personal tours and a Posca Paint Pen Workshop.

BROPHY ART GALLERY & DESIGN STUDIO 139 Granada San Clemente, CA 92672 949-678-8133Journey of the Polynesians - Surfboard Painting by Drew BrophyDrew Brophy2018-04-21 | “JOURNEY OF THE POLYNESIANS” is a Fine Art Painting By Drew Brophy On A 7'10″ Single Fin Swallow Tail Surfboard, Custom Shaped By Ron House.
The surfboard itself is a fine example of craftsmanship; custom shaped by Ron House with a blue resin pigment on the bottom and rails; this is a fine art piece meant to display on the wall.
The painting was inspired by the history of the Polynesian people. Every symbol in the painting has deep meaning and some are ancient concepts.
The Polynesian's journey is one of bravery and adventure. They navigated thousands of miles of the Pacific. Historians aren't sure where they originally came from.
This painting celebrates the journey of the Polynesians. They were master navigators of the sea by the stars. No one is quite sure where they came from or how they gained this amazing knowledge. Some speculate that they reached much further lands, like North and South America.
They were the first surfers. Surfing is one of the few activities that was done just for pure joy, riding the ocean’s energy.
The sky in the painting is a visual depiction of the Polynesian’s “mana.” In Polynesian culture, mana is a spiritual quality considered to have supernatural origin—a sacred impersonal force existing in the universe.
Just like all indigenous people, they weren’t separate from the earth, they were a part of it. They were connected with nature and the Universe, which enabled them to read the skies and the waves.
In the video, Drew describes some of the symbols in the painting and how he came to understand their meaning.
Life is good!Geometry of all living things - SACRED SPIRAL PaintingDrew Brophy2018-01-29 | All living things contain within it the seed of great potential. From the moment of conception, it already has everything it needs to reach that potential through the growing process. (Archival Prints: drewbrophyart.com/collections/spiritual-art )
This painting was commissioned by Shane, a fellow Resonance Science Delegate. He wanted this painting to represent a nautilus shell and geometry that expresses the energy of living things.
Below is my description of the painting, the meaning, and the process:
The Sacred Spiral Nautilus painting was inspired by spin. This beautiful shape perfectly demonstrates how everything is growing from the field of energy that we cannot see.
Elements in the painting have been applied in multiple overlays of transparent and pearlescent paints. My process is done with the intention of allowing the viewer to see through each layer, providing a 3D effect as the light catches it. As you move around the painting, it changes, allowing for multiple viewing experiences.
The painting contains an underpainting of more than one hundred layers of paint, meticulously added over a period of six months. These layers express the flow of water, which is the key component to all living things.
I chose to paint two nautilus shapes in both directions creating the toroidal shape of cyclones and galaxies.
This shape is seen in many plants, air currents, and water. The shape itself is called the Fibonacci spiral.
Its mathematical ratio is an articulation of the process: 1 and 1 make 2, 1 and 2 make 3, 2 and 3 make 5, and so on.
The background of the painting is the Flower of Life pattern in overlapping circles.
I imagine the flower of life background as the field of energy that we cannot see. It scales ever smaller and larger.
It is everything from Galaxies to atoms. It seems to be a self organizing system or process that is constantly building everything we see. And it is beautiful.
The geometry in this painting is built upon the Fruit of Life, one of the building blocks of the Flower of Life Pattern. The center of these circles, when connected in straight lines, creates Metatron’s Cube.
This symbol, Metatron’s Cube, is called many things; The Star of David, Sign of Solomon, and the Merkaba.
To me, this shape is an articulation of ever-expanding and contracting energy fields that create the patterns we see in nature and all matter.
Metatron’s Cube shape contains all of the Platonic solids. One of the most difficult to create is the three dimensional Dodecahedron.
To create this, you create a circle from one of the mid points of the triangles to the center, and continue along those midpoints until you have gone all the way around creating six circles.
By connecting these points to all others you will reveal the three dimensional dodecahedron.
The multiple layers of the painting encode interlocking concepts that have been passed down from Ancient times. Once you are aware, you begin to see them everywhere. They are beautiful to us because it is the order of the Universe.
The water dripping throughout the painting represents the fluidity of energy in which all of this happens.
My intention is that this painting will reveal a deeper understanding of what is happening in nature, all around us.

Drew Brophy, Artist Brophy Art Gallery and Studio San Clemente, CA Ancient Wisdom-Modern ArtThe Geometry of a Cannabis Leaf - A Sacred Geometry Painting CommissionDrew Brophy2017-11-09 | Sweet Leaf is a sacred geometry painting that was commissioned by employees of Doug Francis, the CEO of Weedmaps, for his birthday.
When I get a commission, it's really important that I understand what the collector wants. In this case, they wanted a specific teal green color, sacred geometry and a very subtle leaf incorporated into it. (prints of it here: drewbrophyart.com/collections/music-inspired-art )
This painting was designed to demonstrate the geometry of the leaf and to celebrate the beauty of how purely intelligent it is. I love how this painting turned out. It took a few months from beginning to end, and when it was finished, I was incredibly happy with it.
Below is my description of the painting, the meaning and the process:
Like all plants, the cannabis leaf is a beautiful representation of the intelligence of the Universe.
The seed of the cannabis plant, before it is even put into the dirt, holds within it a blueprint of its magnificent potential.
Water provides the seed with a trigger and the building blocks that enables the seed to grow. The seed grows leaves so that it can collect the light from the sun.
The geometry of life is already there, and the water and the light conspire to allow it to fulfill its greatest potential.
The measurements of the leaves very closely follow the Golden Number 1.618 and the Fibonacci Sequence. The leaves expand as if reaching for the light.
It makes you wonder; how does it know what to do?
When Shamans say "the plants talk to us," they are describing a vibrational message they pick up from the plants that will assist in healing. It's possible that the information being read is encoded in the shape and the fragrance of the leaf.
This is a glorious thing that nature provides, giving us medicine and nutrients to enable us to also fulfill our own potential.
GEOMETRY AND THE PROCESS OF PAINTING SWEET LEAF:
Sweet Leaf is painted on a canvas sized 48” x 60”, using a proprietary mixed media process that I have developed.
The artwork contains an underpainting of more than one hundred layers of paint, meticulously added over a period of months.
I then laid down the flower of life pattern that served as a map representing the field in which everything is contained.
The next step was to add the geometry with the simplest formula, which is radiating circles of 1.618, the Golden Ratio of Phi.
The Golden Ratio is found in the design and beauty of nature, everywhere.
Each circle is 1.618 larger than the circle it surrounds. What I found was that the cannabis leaf lays nearly perfect on the proportions of the Golden Number with each blade of the leaf matching the circles.
Then I took the arcs of those circles and made intersecting points, finding that it was the basic blue print for the leaf itself, creating a beautiful geometry.
Next, I painted in a ghost image of the actual leaf that floats within the geometry.
All together it demonstrates the perfection of nature. It's a beautiful pattern, which is the fundamental building block of life as well as the building block of design. We have to wonder, why does this look appealing to us? The geometry, the leaf, the plant? Our minds find it beautiful because of these ratios and design elements that are taken from nature.
We recognize it, sub-consciously, as divine.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN RATIO AND THE FIBONACCI SEQUENCE:
In nature, all living things contain the 1.618 Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci Sequence.
The Golden Ratio is an average of the growth rate of all living things. The Fibonacci Sequence is a ratio describing the same effect.
Everything is spiraling out of nothing. It's as though light is growing. It is taking the light and the water and constructing something out of space, and builds at that rate, in balance.
For example, in your hand, each one of your bones is 1.618 smaller or larger than the others. If you fold your fingers, you'll see that they curl in a spiral, much like the Fibonacci Sequence.
Everything in nature is perfectly proportioned. In art, when you use these formulas, it is more beautiful to us because we subconsciously recognize the proportion that we know to be in all of nature.
Nature is attempting to grow as efficiently as possible and just so happens that nature has figured it out.
We are connected to all life forms and the Universe is just one big potential that we all are striving to access.
