FREE?!? Gas Powered Air Compressor has MAJOR Problems ~ Can we Bring it BACK from the DEAD!?!? Salvage Workshop 2023-09-24 | NOTHING in life is TRULY free......... I was just driving around minding my OWN business when I see this old BEAT up gas powered air compressor sitting on the side of the road with a FREE sign on it... It only needed EVERYTHING to make it work! No big deal right? WRONG! It was a LOT of work to make this thing do what it was told again!What did i do to deserve all the hard work it would cause me! I didn't abuse this machine, but regardless it decided to come home with me whether I liked it or not! The true cost for this old machine is not defined by dollars, but by something MUCH more VALUABLE....TIME! ...and it wasn't ANYWHERE near FREE!! Kidding aside, I'm truly pumped to have this old compressor, regardless of it's many aliments and problems! I have been needing a portable air compressor that runs on gasoline, and this one FITS the bill!This is / WAS a Hitachi EC 2510E Gas powered Air compressor that is powered by a 5.5 horsepower Honda GX160 gasoline engine. It was missing the gas tank, the pull cord was gone, and it looks as if ALL the oil in the entire machine decided it didn't want to be part of the machine any longer! DESTROYING? a Milling Machine from the 1960s... Its STUCK Solid! ~ Can we fix it & WILL IT RUN?!? Salvage Workshop 2023-09-03 | Work finally continues on getting my workshop FULLY outfitted and setup to be able to MAKE, REPAIR, or Fabri-coble ANYTHING I want or need for all my crazy projects!Today we'll work on fixing a VERY important machine in a shop like mine: The Vertical Milling Machine!For those that don't know a Milling machine is a machine tool in which a vertical (or horizontal) cutting tool spins and is used to move a work piece. A milling machine will shave off small sections of the metal until the final product is produced. It is like the little brother to an engine lathe, and can do A LOT of things a lathe can't do, and vise versa!The machine we are working on today is a Gorton MasterMil 1-22 vertical milling machine built in 1969. This machine came from a fleet of these machines that was at a High School at one point. When I got it there were a few problems: The Quill or spinal should go up and down like a drill press does, and that was not happening AT ALL! It's MASSIVELY stuck. This machine is also wired for 440 Volt 3 Phase power, and I've NEVER heard this thing run... I only have 220 Volt 3 phase power in my shop, so hopefully we can switch it over! finally the whole machine is just dirty and needs a good cleaning!This machine is built like a TANK, and is EXTREMELY heavy which is great for a machine like this! The OLD Loader wont Stay Running...Im STRUGGLING to figuring it out...Will it EVER run AGAIN? Salvage Workshop 2023-08-28 | So after all the hard work getting the Loader to run properly and actually WORK, I'm having MAJOR problems again!It will not stay running, and I'm pretty sure its a FUEL supply issue, but I don't know for sure! Military Generator Forgotten in a Barn ~ Will it START & Make POWER?!? Its a Single Cylinder DIESEL Salvage Workshop 2023-07-01 | I found this generator on marketplace, and the guy I bought it from said since he couldn't get it running, then I NEVER would! Let's find out if he's right or not!This little generator is a Military MEP-016b made by Onan. It is a 3KW generator, and has the ability to EASILY and quickly change from generating 120V single phase power to 208V 3 phase power (as well as a few other options!)When I got this thing it looked like every mouse in the barn decided to make it their home, and it had more bird seed on it than I've seen in some bird feeders! Rescuing a $500 Road Grader that was Forgotten in a Field... Was it WORTH it?!? Salvage Workshop 2023-05-08 | Well...... I found another Motor Grader to rescue, and I honestly don't know if it was WORTH it or not!?! Do I need another grader? How bad is the DAMAGE? There are SO many unanswered questions, and hopefully we'll get some answers today!This is a Mid to Late 1950's Allis Chalmers Model D Motor Grader or Road Grader. That starts with installing the steel siding along all of the areas where we have exposed building wrap / wood. This is the top edge, the windows, and the spot where the wall fell over when we were rebuilding the building.Then the window into the bathroom needs to be completely redone and then reinstalled! Another HUGE thing for the shop is the install of a Mr Cool HVAC 36k Split @MrcoolComfort unit that will finally give us heat AND AC here at the cave! I PULLED this Roller from a DUMPSTER!! - Can we SAVE this Forgotten Walk Behind Vibratory roller? Salvage Workshop 2023-02-12 | So I recently found this Ingersoll Rand walk behind vibratory roller in a scrap metal dumpster where it was destined to be melted down, and never to be seen again. Luckily for us, I was able to save it from the crusher! In this video we'll see what it takes to get it running and back into usable condition so we can put it to work!This is an Ingersoll Rand SX-17 Vibratory Roller with a Robin EY20D gasoline engine powering it. Rescuing 1960s Tractors for USE on a Friends Farm ~ Forgotten in a CROWD of OTHER old Tractors Salvage Workshop 2022-10-16 | I enjoy old machines & tractors, as you may know, and recently, a friend of mine called me to see if I could help him move a couple of tractors that he purchased from an auction back to his farm. He uses these types of machines on his cattle farm. The two machines are from the 1960's; they are two Case 930 tractors. One is propane and one is diesel. Saving an Old Road Grader from an EARLY Grave ~ Caterpillar Motor Grader Sat Abandoned for 10+ Years Salvage Workshop 2022-08-26 | It is time to get the third machine that we are rescuing from the old farm! I really want to get this thing back to the Salvage Cave and work on it there, so let's bring it on home! This machine is a Cat No 12 Motor Grader that was built in 1965. It has been parked in the same spot for a little over 10 years. It quit working one day while the family was using it, and they never got it up and running again. I plan to do some work on it to get it up and running once it's back to my shop. Bringing HOME the OLD Allis Wheel Loader ~ Day 6 ~ AC Wheel Loader Salvage Workshop 2022-07-31 | It's time to get the AC Wheel Loader home. Before I can safely move the Wheel Loader, I need to do a little service/maintenance on my International Service Truck. Join me as I take a look the truck and set up my Big Rig to bring the Wheel Loader on it's journey BACK to the CAVE!. ~This old loader is a 1965 Allis Chalmers TL645 Wheel Loader with an Allis Chalmers 3500 turbo charged 6 cylinder diesel engine. It has an Allison automatic transmission, and can reach speeds of 21MPH going forward! It is articulated and can make VERY tight turns, making it very nimble in tight places. Its MOVING Day! ~ DAY 7 ~ RARE 1954 Cat No.6 Shovel Forgotten in a Barn Salvage Workshop 2022-07-24 | The time has finally come to move Big Bad John to its new home: The Salvage Cave! Before I get Big Bad John onto the trailer, I need to convert the trailer hook up on the International Service Truck to a 7 pin style. Once I do that, I'll pull Big Bad John out of the barn for his journey home, which includes loading him on the trailer. The Old CAT Moves DIRT after 15+ YEARS ~ DAY 6 ~ RARE 1954 Cat No.6 Shovel FORGOTTEN in a BARN Salvage Workshop 2022-06-04 | Day Six is in the books! Now that the hydraulic hoses are replaced, Big Bad John is ready to dig again! Before I started digging, I worked on a few maintenance items, such as the thermostats and the water temperature gauge. I used the grease pump I found in the garage to grease the zerks. Tearing the Head off Old Reds Diesel with a CRANE Truck ~ Part 18 ~ 1950s Caterpillar TraxCavator Salvage Workshop 2022-05-01 | Today's plan is to use my "new" Polecat Crane truck / service truck to remove the head off Old Red. Then we can evaluate the diesel engine a bit and replace the head gasket, make a few other gaskets & replace a few seals on the old beast!So when I first started Old Red's diesel engine there was a SMALL leak between the head and the diesel engine block. It wasn't overly alarming, but since we're SO far into the machine at this point, we might as well (M'as'll) go ahead and take care of that issue now! It's not going to magically fix itself!We'll detail the head, check for issues, and while we're in there we'll take the valves apart, clean them, and do a quick lap job on them. The FORGOTTEN Skid Steers First wash EVER! ~ Dirty Turkey Part 2 Salvage Workshop 2022-01-29 | We PULLED this skid steer from the DEATH grip Mother Nature had on it, and now it's FINALLY time to clean it up & see what we have!! The plan today is to give this machine it's FIRST WASH EVER!!Then we'll get setup to see what it's gonna take to bring this little beast back to life! I have a feeling it's NOT gonna be EASY!Mother Nature has a pretty strong grip on this old beat up machine! Not to mention it lived a VERY hard LIFE, and probably DIED a difficult death! When we rescued this machine from it's grave in part 1, Mike called this little skid steer a Dirty Turkey when it was stubborn & wouldn't move for us! Since then, that name STUCK! So this little skid steer will forever be named "DIRTY TURKEY"~It's going to take a LOT to get this thing back to usable condition. and just a quick look at it, I can tell it's going to need Wheels, Tires, a new Seat, all new Lights, probably an entire rebuild on the Engine, and that's what I can tell by just looking at it! Who knows if the engine will even turn over, or the TRUE condition of the Diesel Engine, especially since it's was used for a LONG time without any air filter at ALL!! The old MFr DOESNT wanna DIG.... Lets FIX the Hydraulics!!! ~ Broke Down Backhoe ~ Part 2 Salvage Workshop 2022-01-23 | This is my Massey Ferguson 50HX Backhoe Loader that I rescued from the side of a corn field in the first video! This machine has a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel engine that runs BEAUTIFULLY! It's 4wd and it has a manually locked rear differential, so it should be pretty HARD to get stuck... ASSUMING everything is working... But everything is NOT working!From day one with this old backhoe, there were NO hydraulics, and I'm starting to think THAT's the reason it was left abandoned, only to be destined for the SCRAP yard so many years ago!! I think the hydraulic pump is NOT connected to the engine, causing it to not turn and pump fluid, but we need to take a closer look. For many people that would be a SHOW STOPPER, especially with the other engine issues, electrical problems, & tire problems we've already addressed just to rescue this old backhoe!It's time to DIG into the hydraulics and see if we can fix that problem! Then we can figure out what problems we need to address next and TRULY bring this old beast back to life and then put it back to work! Do you think the hydraulic pump is any good? I found a RARE ALL-Terrain Wheel Loader Forklift! Will it START?! (THIS Machine PUT UP A FIGHT!!!) Salvage Workshop 2022-01-15 | Is it someones HOMEMADE machine? Was it a CUSTOM order by the Military? Did they ONLY make ONE? OR did all of the documentation for this Clark(Michigan) 35 AWS ALL-Terrain Forklift get lost in a fire many decades ago?!? I DON'T KNOW!! If you do, PLEASE let me know! Also if you have any documentation for this machine, I would love to see it, if you would be so kind!! Here's what I do know:This is a late 1960's early 1970's Clark (Michigan) 35 AWS Forklift built on the Michigan 35 AWS Wheel Loader / Shovel rated to lift 5000lbs. It is All Wheel Steer, 4 Wheel Drive, and has a Perkins A4.236 Diesel engine (most likely transplanted, could be wrong). It has air over hydraulic brakes that of course don't work, with an engine powered air compressor and an on board air horn that DOES work & is AWESOME. I'm guessing it's from the 1970's or so (maybe earlier), but I'm not positive on that!This thing is rollin on 24" tires and has ground clearance for DAYS!! Which makes it easy to take this unique forklift just about ANYWHERE, and I have every intention to put that to the TEST!!This revival was DEFINITELY a challenge to say the least, and I'm betting that you'll NEVER guess why I couldn't get this thing to start!
