A release from Sacramento County said a skunk that was behaving aggressively bit the visitor on Oct. 15. Crews with the zoo captured and euthanized three nearby skunks in the Land Park area and submitted them to the Sacramento County Public Health Laboratories for rabies testing. "That's a very unusual thing to happen. And in talking with the people, it looked like this was a very abnormal incident," said Dr. Jenessa Gjeltema, lead veterinarian at the zoo.

PG&E for years now has been proactively shutting off power to customers in areas it deems at risk of wildfires. Those planned outages are known as Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). CEO Patti Poppe said for a utility in the business of keeping power running to their customers, one of the tougher decisions is to cut that power when it's windy and dry enough that their equipment could start a large fire. She says they're focused on reducing the number of people who are impacted.

The fire started just after 2 a.m. at the Camelia Gardens Mobile Home Park in the Arden-Arcade area, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said. When firefighters arrived, they noticed heavy fire from one of the units. Parker Wilbourn, a spokesperson for Metro Fire, said they initially got a report that two people were missing. Crews found one person with burns and sent them to a hospital. That person's injuries were described as minor to moderate.

Caleb Duerr, who the sheriff's office described as violent and dangerous when he broke out on Sept. 27, was taken back into custody Thursday morning. Duerr had been at the jail since being booked on May 24 on domestic violence, sexual assault and criminal threat-related charges.
