If you fall off the fence during Kitty Climb, you can get back up by jump attacking into the corner and then spamming b until you are on stable footing. Sometimes this can cause you to fall off the other side, but if you hold slightly back once you are on the ledge, you shouldn't fall off.Kitty ClimbJacquaid2025-02-16 | New tech found by Bewildebeest, setup improved by others.
Jump onto the railing, walk to the edge and to the side a bit, angle very slightly to the right of straight down the railing and sidehop past the invisible wall, then slash while holding forward past another invisible wall. After that, you can c-up target walk to never fall off and quickly get into position, then jump attack through the railing (aim slightly to the right of the corner between the railings). Angle so that Link is facing the door/wall, put on iron boots (not strictly necessary), then do a neutral targeted b-attack to get up onto the railing. Flick the left stick up right, then quickly backhop and sidehop up to the top.
Unfortunately, this trick can be a bit finnicky with clipping back out at the end, but the rest of it is consistent.TPHD Goron Mines RTA in 1:13:26Jacquaid2025-02-16 | New thing, new record. Overall, I only underperformed my seed by one place if you consider this to be "17th place" for the whole tournament (although I think that's a slightly unfair characterization for winning a bracket). So I guess this is a success. Might try to get one more PB before pretty much never playing TPGC ever again.
Run starts at 15:35. This run kind of sucked and Ethernet briefly gave me a run for my money, but it was effectively over after AG (despite my awful Zelda).
Hopefully whatever my Grands matchup is will be more entertaining. I'm guessing it will be Ethernet, but it could reasonably be Link1183 or Bdamja. We shall see.

Sad that horseback killed the 2:57, but still a very nice time. 1 minute each in twilights, AG, and city, but the rest was overall very solid. I had 5 golds in here, which is kind of crazy (although I didn't actually gold by all that much).
This is probably going to be my last PB, but there's still a bit of time before WD4 ends and I would like to get a 2:57 if possible. I can at least be very satisfied with this, though.TPGC Any% in 2:59:38Jacquaid2024-07-21 | What a letdown. We don't talk about the aeralfos incident.Hyrule Castle Darknut FightJacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. This is the fastest method to beat this darknut. Rollstab into four slashes, then walking slash into six slashes. Sidehop right through the sword and line up behind the darknut to easily land two slashes and three ball and chain hits. The rest is just the normal lantern boomerang movement (line up in the square, aim at the column, and throw after the cutscene).Darknut Skip with Jump Strike Moon BootsJacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. This is Demon's setup based on PokemonGenius's discovery of this trick.
With a frame precise (two-frame window followed by a one-frame window) jump strike moon boots, we can grab onto this fence and skip beating the darknut. Per Beest, this should save 29 seconds over doing the fight normally.
Apparently it is possible to leave the fight with the big statute even without beating the darknut, so this should be useful for 100% even though we haven't figured out Door of Time skip on HD yet.
More detailed video by Beest here youtube.com/watch?v=fcqQllowJNQ (on Gamecube)Darknut Phase 1 (Feet Bomb Arrows)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. The fastest way to do phase one of the darknut fight is to shoot bomb arrows at him. This is MrMrMen's more recent method.
This method shoots bomb arrows near the darknut's feet, and we can get up to three hits per shot (six hits are needed to get to the next phase). In theory we could get as few as two shots with this method.
This particular example took four shots and saved around four seconds over the easier slash method. The Gamecube All Dungeons TAS uses this method and saves around six seconds compared to the slash method example I posted.Darknut Phase 1 (Back Bomb Arrows)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. The fastest way to do phase one of the darknut fight is to shoot bomb arrows at him. This is Dragonbane's old method.
This method goes behind him, which is a bit tricky, but we can get up to two hits per shot, and six hits are needed to get to the next phase. In theory we could get as few as three shots with this method.
This particular example took four shots and saved only around three seconds over the much easier slash method.Darknut Phase 2 (Backup)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. If the darknut blocks your attack or you fail the second phase strat for any reason (like sliding here), this is the fastest backup. Do a walking slash, go behind the darknut, slash twice, then hit him with three ball and chain attacks (throwing for the last hit can help if he tries to get away).Darknut Phase 2 (Jumpslash)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. This is Draconif's strat for the second phase of this fight. Jump attack out of the cutscene (mash) and turn a bit, then pull out ball and chain. Hit speeds may vary, but sometimes turning while swinging the ball and chain can speed it up.
This method cannot be used after using bomb arrows on phase one (Link will put his sword away instead of doing a jump attack).Darknut Phase 2 (Run Up)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. This is SVA's strat for the second phase of this fight. After rolling out of the cutscene, you can turn right a bit before pulling out ball and chain, and it should just work most of the time. Hit speeds may vary, but sometimes turning while swinging the ball and chain can speed it up.
Unlike the jumpslash strat, you can do this after using bomb arrows on the first phase.Darknut Phase 1 (Slashes)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. Straightforward darknut fight. Walking slash followed by six slashes, rinse and repeat. This darknut takes one more slash than other darknuts, but the idea is the same.Start Darknut Fight EarlierJacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. Shoot an arrow (or bomb arrow) or throw the boomerang to start the fight a bit earlier.Boomerang SoftlockJacquaid2024-07-12 | Cleaner copy with input display. Sidehopping and savewarping here locks you out of the boomerang, making the game impossible to complete (as far as I'm aware).Ook CrashJacquaid2024-07-12 | Killing Ook while the boomerang is in his hand (because you hit the pillar very late) causes the game to hard crash immediately. It doesn't do this if you don't actually kill Ook, however (i.e., you can still do damage and be fine as long as you don't kill him).Ook FightJacquaid2024-07-12 | For ZSR. Self-explanatory. Two cycles of jumpspin slash.Quick Aeralfos Two Cycle with Ball and ChainJacquaid2024-07-12 | This is slower than the one cycle, but it's the fastest way of doing the two cycle. More or less, just do the Hyrule Castle Aeralfos strat with ball and chain twice.Aeralfos Skip (Four Slash Setup)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | Instead of fighting Aeralfos, we can skip him, which saves around 40s. Unfortunately, without notches and with gyro, this trick is kind of frustrating.
Thankfully, getting into position with this setup (three neutral slashes into a forward slash) is fairly consistent, so you mainly just have to worry about aiming.Easier Deku Toad ComboJacquaid2024-07-12 | Instead of having to time Deku Toad slashes precisely, you can instead just do the Beast Ganon combo on Deku Toad's tongue (which is a lot more lenient). This only loses about 0.2s per cycle, so it's probably worth the tradeoff for consistency.Aeralfos Skip (Roll Setup 2)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | Instead of fighting Aeralfos, we can skip him, which saves around 40s. Unfortunately, without notches and with gyro, this trick is kind of frustrating.
This setup is a bit annoying without notches, but it still works. When starting with iron boots off, roll forward once, put iron boots on, and roll back once. Try to be as close as possible to straight up and straight down when rolling because your position matters.Aeralfos Skip (Roll Setup 1)Jacquaid2024-07-12 | Instead of fighting Aeralfos, we can skip him, which saves around 40s. Unfortunately, without notches and with gyro, this trick is kind of frustrating.
Thankfully, getting into position with this setup (iron boots jump attack into three neutral slashes) is fairly consistent, so you mainly just have to worry about aiming. Here's Draconif's original video which explains this in a bit more detail: youtube.com/watch?v=ApK0f6TVLJEAeralfos One Cycle with Ball and ChainJacquaid2024-07-12 | Old trick, new video on it. Four raw B&C hits, then four shielded hits (the fourth was on the way out of the throw) and one hit one the way back.
More specifically, you need to get nine ball and chain hits to kill, and any raw hit past the fourth will send Aeralfos to the second phase (slow). Instead, we can keep upping the damage by hitting Aeralfos's shield *during an attack* (if he actually just stands there blocking, it won't count, see e.g., the first shielded hit in this video). So ideally we want four raw B&C hits, four shielded hits, and one raw B&C hit (often on the way back, but it can be right after pulling him down). But you can also do four raw, then five shielded, then any slash will kill.
Saves a fair amount of time over doing the second phase.Kai ClipJacquaid2024-07-12 | This works roughly the same as it does on GC, but using a different spot closer to what Glubbers uses for his runs (i.e., aim for the left square in the diamond of squares). Credit to Onaku for trying Glubbers's method and to Muffin for finding this trick to begin with.
Saves around 10 or so seconds over going outside.WD4 Redemption WB R2: Jacquaid (1-0) (3:00:15, Win) vs. Link1183 (1-0) (3:12:12, Loss)Jacquaid2024-07-09 | Fun race. A little disappointed it didn't PB, but I was a bit worried about this one, so I'll take the win.
Next up is the winner of Tuffy and Morgan for the WB Semis. I've locked up top 6 at this point, and I think I'm probably the favorite to win the redemption bracket, but I need to actually execute to live up to the hype.

This result knocks me out of the last chance pool (I needed to get 3rd), so I will officially be in the redemption bracket, where I have a much better chance of winning (though not if I play like this). Should be interesting.

Run starts at 6:49.Iza 1 Skip with NaN WolfJacquaid2024-06-06 | We can break a warp using Iza's forced pause to trigger Nan Wolf to load the end of Iza 1.
Steps: - Enter Iza's hut as human (you cannot already have lent bomb bag in your inventory or you will not be able to warp later, which is required to get the forced transform that we break) - Pause in front of Iza, hold A and D-Pad Up (Map), then unpause (you cannot get the correct order of inputs without pause buffering here). You should hear the map come up as you are talking to Iza. - Warp anywhere (UZR is fastest) - When Iza's forced pause comes up, go to the collection screen and equip a different tunic than the one you are wearing, then close the collection screen - If performed correctly, you should trigger the loading zone at the end of Iza 1 most of the time. But NaN Wolf is somewhat inconsistent, so it will fail and you will just warp some fraction of the time (not entirely sure what causes this)
Should save time for HD 100%, but 100% will have to be rerouted... again.
