DIALOG project SESAR 2025-05-23 | The project aims to enhance collaboration between air traffic controllers and AI systems in air traffic management. Its goal is to enable AI systems in human-AI teams to anticipate when and what kind of assistance is needed by controllers and respond accordingly. DIALOG is developing an AI-based digital assistant, the teamwork assistant , which uses speech recognition and understands pilot-controller exchanges to infer ATCOs' intent and goals. The assistant also employs machine learning methods to assess controllers’ workload and attention in real-time, based on voice, physiology, and behavioural data. The actions of the assistant are determined by the controllers’ current state, attention allocation, traffic situation, and overall context. Controllers then give different aircraft instructions to separate them when airborne. ORCI - Optimised Runway Centreline Interception SESAR 2025-04-16 | The project will explore innovative AI-based solutions to help increase runway throughput using advanced automation support tools in the TMA domain. ASTRA- AI-enabled tactical FMP hotspot prediction and resolution SESAR 2025-03-12 | Today, air traffic congestion or hotspots are identified using flight plan data and are managed in the pre-tactical stage of the flight. However, on the day of operation, an aircraft's actual trajectory may differ significantly from its flight plan and, as a result, hotspots still occur and these have to be resolved by the controllers (ATCOs) without sufficient advance notice. With today's tools, tactical hotspots are only identified up to around 20 minutes in advance. The aim of ASTRA is to predict and resolve hotspots much earlier than today using an AI-enabled tool. AWARE - Achieving human-machine collaboration with artificial situational awareness SESAR 2025-03-10 | The goal of the project is to enable human-machine collaboration by using an artificial situational awareness system which is enabling AI to anticipate and respond to human needs by understanding human intent and goals. While humans are extensively trained to understand the capabilities, limitations, and functionality of the machines they are using, further improvements in human-machine collaboration are currently hindered by lack of awareness of human's intent on the side of machines. Executive Roundtable 2 – A new service delivery model for ATM in Europe SESAR 2025-02-21 | 🔵 What are the next steps to transition to a new service delivery model for more scalable, safe and resilient air traffic management #ATM in Europe? 🔍 The second roundtable at #SJUAnnual25 heard from supporters of the new model. Key takeaways….🔹 Arndt Schoenemann, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, said the move to the new service delivery model is a necessity to enable growth, and implement innovation much faster than in the past. Standardisation and collaboration will be key. 🔹 Elisabeth Landrichter, Austro Control, said that we have good examples of collaboration in #ATM that we can build upon, referencing the 20 years of COOPANS Alliance cooperation with industry partners to ensure a standardised system. We can learn from these efficient initiatives.🔹 Alain Siebert, #SESARJU, said that #ANSPs and ground manufacturers are committed to ensuring a level of harmonisation but having an enabling regulatory/certification framework will be key.🔹 Iacopo Prissinotti, EUROCONTROL, said that it’s not just certification that will be critical, but also change management, investing and training staff for the shift to more agile methodologies. 🔹 Marc Dufourmantelle, Thales, noted that open data systems envisaged by the model will see exchanges of large flows of air-ground information, so cyber-security is a top priority. 🔹 David Luengo, Indra, said that the adoption of technologies takes up to 40% of the timelines in transformation projects, so time is of the essence.
