This first fixture is a 24"x24"x1" steel plate that we'll mill it to fit the beauty ring but also so we can bolt it down to the Flex bed. Machining a Custom Mounting Bracket Abom79 2024-08-20 | The local Air Power Services was in need of a custom aluminum bracket machined to be used on a new compressor equipment install and they needed it done quickly. No one else in town was willing get on it right away, so I did and had fun machining it too. Aluminum Beauty Rings Part 1- Turning & Facing in the American Pacemaker Lathe Abom79 2024-08-17 | This video kicks off the biggest machining project currently in my new shop space. I have 8 aluminum discs, plasma cut from 1" thick 6061 plate stock that I have to machine into a beautiful trim rings that will be bolted onto light fixtures. Small Batch CNC Turning for the Fab Shop Abom79 2024-08-10 | The welding shop called and asked for more standoffs to be machine only they need to be made from 1018 steel this time. The machine that they go on is being modified to hopefully make a better and longer lasting repair and to prevent long down time in the event of another failure. This updated design is being welded onto a steel plate that will then be bolted onto the machine instead of directly welded allowing the maintenance crew to replace them if needed. 2 UNC Tap Size Holes-Tool Tuesday Ep.17 Abom79 2024-07-23 | I have a customer job in the shop that requires some steel plate to be machined with 2" UNC holes. Since I don't have the exact tap drill size needed I used our Flex CNC to drill and mill the holes to size. Here I am getting the program proven and be sure the holes will be on size. SNS 380: Magbase Flexarm, Thread Chasing Abom79 2024-07-13 | I revisit the first cart top fixture plate that had the damaged tapped holes in it. I wanted to save the fixture for our own shop use for another work area so I decided to simply chase all of the tapped holes and make use of the magbase Flexarm setup. This was a very easy and efficient way to chase all 212 tapped holes. The new mag base allows the Flexarm to be mobile and more versatile with job shop work and giving me the ability to take it to other job sites if needed. Milling 13/16 Holes in Angle Iron for a Fast Turn-Around Abom79 2024-06-29 | The welding shop had a stack of 4x4x1/2 angle iron pieces cut 6" long that required some 13/16" holes machines in them and they needed them back right away. This was a great opportunity to use the @MilltronicsUSAInc TRM3016 cnc mill with my @TungaloyCorporation 1/2" Tung Force Rec end mill and use a helical interpolation tool path to mill the holes to size. Production Drilling 3/4 Holes in Steel Pins Abom79 2024-06-01 | I had a drilling job show up that needed a fast turnaround time. I decided to use this as another training job using Fusion 360 to make a simple program and drill two of these pins during each cycle. Nevada Northern Railway Machine Shop & Engine House Abom79 2024-05-18 | We recently paid a visit to the @nevadanorthernrailway8416 in Ely, Nevada. Before catching our train ride we took a walk through their machine shop and engine house. It's open to the public so everything can walk through and enjoy seeing them. The preservation the organization has done to every aspect of the railway is simply amazing! All of the original machinery, equipment, tools, buildings train cars and locomotives were saved and preserved. They are always working on restorations and hope to eventually have many of the cars and engines rebuilt and put back into service. Aluminum Standoffs Machined in the CNC Lathe Abom79 2024-03-30 | I machined a small batch of aluminum parts using our @MilltronicsUSAInc ML16 cnc lathe. Hardtail Vise Ep. 23: Machining & Assembly Finale Abom79 2024-03-16 | I'll finish up the final touches needed to the fixed vise jaw body to allow proper fitment of the dynamic jaw to slide through properly. Once that's completed we'll get the Hardtail assembled and completed! This was one hell of a project but one that I had a lot of enjoyment machining and sharing with my audience. Hardtail Vise Ep. 22: Internal Shaping to Fit Dynamic Jaw Abom79 2024-03-16 | As we get to the final machining needed for our Hardtail vise, we'll get the inside area of the fixed jaw body machined to fit the dynamic jaw. For this I will be using the G&E shaper and a 12" long bar I made to cut the four corners that hold the dynamic jaw in the center. This was no simple task by any means but it was a great challenge to work on and I am excited to share this with everyone. I had well over two hours of video of this setup including the final fitment so I broke this into two final videos. Hardtail Vise Build Ep. 21 Abom79 2024-03-09 | As we begin our final machining ops for the Hardtail vise, we move back to the home shop and the G&E shaper. We'll first have to modify our shaper fixture plate to hold the vise for machining. Once we get that done we'll get the vise setup, indicated and start working on machining the chin section of the static jaw body. Machine Sump Cleaning & Coolant Filtering Using a CECOR Sump Shark Abom79 2024-02-27 | Paul from CECOR came by the shop to give me some helpful tip and tricks on how to use their Sump Shark for cleaning out and maintaining machine coolant sumps. This coolant filtration machine makes the mundane tasks of extracting coolant, oils, sludge and chips from sumps a much easier task to handle and also serves as a filtration unit as well. Paul goes over some of the basic functions of the machine, how it works, and tips on it's use including the cleanup of the tank. It was some valuable information to learn. Hardtail Vise Build Ep.19: Tail Housing Op.1 Abom79 2024-02-17 | The next component part in line to be machined is the "Hardtail", the part in which the vise was named after. The housing gets bolted onto the back of the vise and holds the nut in place. This will be tackled in two separate setups. First setup we'll get the outboard end machines where the nut slide though. Once that is finished we'll flip it 180 and finish the inboard side with the flange. This was another CNC learning job for me. Hardtail Vise Build Ep.18: Swivel Base Counterbore Abom79 2024-02-13 | The final machined surface for the swivel base I wanted to pull off on the cnc mill. With Fusion 360 I used a 2D Bore cycle to quickly and easily milled the angular wall of the counterbore and cleaned up the bottom face to the spec needed. With the bottom face machined the base now has the proper clearance to pivot on the swivel bolt.
