The Sheriff’s department was reduced due to funding (or rather the lack of funding) by the County government. The Sheriff and two deputies were all that remained to cover an area of over 1,630 square miles and a population of approximately 50,000. The Sheriff was forced to deploy his resources on the days and times that the three men could do the most good for the most people. In addition to banning them from carrying a loaded firearm, the ordinance proposed to ban the carry of loaded magazines as well AND to allow police to demand anyone carrying produce a CHL or allow an inspection of their firearm to determine if it was loaded.This flies in the face of FOURTH amendment protections against unreasonable searches and seizures. In order to fulfill this last part of the proposed ordinance, police would have to detain anyone seen carrying a firearm. Yet that detainment would be done without the necessary suspicion that is REQUIRED. To be lawful, an officer would have to reasonably suspect that a person with a firearm was BOTH loaded AND did not have a CHL. Rather difficult to do unless you know the individual fairly well.The Council, after warnings from the pro rights individuals and groups dropped all but the "loaded carry ban".The second ordinance, an attempt to get around state preemption on storage of firearms by calling it a "child safety measure" was also dropped entirely.The Council was warned that should they pass their ordinance, it would make their city the "Destination of Choice" for every open carry activist in Southern Oregon.The purpose of this walk and those conducted previously is to show them what they can expect should they vote to try to deny the very basic human right of self defense from the people. Were it not for their ordinance, we would not have been there that day, let alone there carrying rifles. This was the last day he had available for hunting and he "filled his tag" within half an hour of showing up. After he got his buck I headed back to the truck to bring it to the kill and another friend showed up with a potential hunter. Unfortunately, this late in the season, there aren't a lot of deer on the property so we ended up mostly scouting the area. We did see a huge (for the area) three point several miles up the road with a nice sized heard of does. Maybe he'll make it up to the property before the end of the season and another Patriot will be able to fill his tag.

Bike in the ditch 014 OpenCarryUSMC 2013-07-07 | A short distance north of Florence I put my shiny bike right into the ditch. Nothing damaged but my ego and after some helpful folks stopped to help we were able to lift it out, inspect it, and get back on the road.
