Wolheim. Do you know him? I mean, know HIM (not his rough face!) Let's take a deeper look... "He was an American actor, of both stage and screen, whose rough physical appearance relegated him to roles mostly of thugs or villains in the movies, but whose talent allowed him to flourish on stage. His career was mostly contained during the silent era of the film industry, due to his untimely death at the age of 50 in 1931." Let's look even further into the man..."Born in New York City in 1880, he attended Cornell University, where he graduated with a degree in engineering. After graduation, he taught mathematics, including 6 years as an instructor at Cornell. According to Wolheim, while at Cornell, he suffered an injury to his nose during a football game, and, after having the nose seen to by medical professionals, later that same day he got into a physical altercation (which he won), although his nose suffered more damage, ending up becoming almost a trademark for him." This heart-felt story, beloved by so many of us was written by Charlotte Bronte, published in 1847. Jane Eyre" is a story of Hardship, Hope, Love, and New Life It has been made into movie versions for over a 100 years. I recently listened to a March, 1940 Campbell's Playhouse radio program of Jane Eyre. This radio program (and series) was produced, directed and starred Orson Welles (Yes, he was very intelligent--gifted I believe--and did a truly amazing job for Campbell's :) To continue, I thought it would be fun if I transcribed Orson's intro to his radio play. BTW, "Jane Eyre" was his last program for Campbell's and co-starred the beautiful and talented Madeline Carroll. (a note: the "Press Notice" which Orson quotes wasn't clearly referenced by him. That's ok. But, wow, read it and see what people actually thought about "Jane Eyre"--it was very surprising to me, and I absolutely disagree with "The Press"!!)Mr. Welles:"In the last 90 years Jane Eyre has acquired the full respectability of an English Classic and has lost none of it’s color. It began as one of those books which everybody reads and no nice person would ever read. But Jane Eyre appearing in England as it did early in the reign of Queen Victoria, came as a general shock, and was an immediate success. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Cinematography – Color, Best Director and Best Picture. It DEFINITELY has "The (Ernst) Lubitsch Touch" ;D This Classic will hold up just fine if I share a bit of the story's premise: "An aged Henry Van Cleve (Don Ameche) enters the opulent reception area of Hell, to be personally greeted by "his excellency"--small "h", small "e" played by Laird Cregar. Henry petitions to be admitted (fully aware of the kind of life he had led), but there is some doubt as to his qualifications. To prove his worthiness (or rather unworthiness), he begins to tell the story of his dissolute life..." (thank you, wiki!) This movie is a hoot ;D This is one of the many funny lines given by Don Ameche's character when questioned by satan: "I can safely say my whole life was one continuous misdemeanor". Whether it's your first time to see "Meet John Doe" or your fifth (or more!) this film is always a good choice of entertainment and inspiration!Did you know that "Meet John Doe" was originally a story from the 1922 edition of Century Magazine, called, "A Reputation"? I'm finding that many Classic Movies have their beginnings in Stage Plays, Books, and Short Stories which appeared in Magazines. Classic movies were also taken from Serials. ❤ :D SWEET Little Cardinal Eggs and Nest Discovered in My Backyard 2016 one4allfour1 2016-05-08 | ❤ :D Here is a tiny movie I wanted to share of a beautifully constructed Cardinal nest, filled to the brim with Cardinal eggs! Isn't it sweet? I was noticing a Cardinal couple flitting to and fro for many days, so while they were away, I did a little sleuthing ;) For 3 or more years I've noticed this same little couple coming back to make their nests in the same area in my backyard. This year and last, they chose to have their family(s) in our children's old swing set that I've trained trumpet vines and Virginia creeper to encompass and overhang the bars to a glider. I love that this pair comes back to me! Hopefully the neighborhood mamma cat, who's chosen to have her kitties in my back yard, also, (yay! she keeps the HUGE possum and mice away!) won't scare the Cardinal couple off this year! We'll see. I'll keep you updated if we have "hatched" baby birdies!
HAIL FROM THE OTHER NIGHT! one4allfour1 2016-04-14 | For my SUBSCRIBERS... :-)Isn't this amazing? This was the hail I had to manage to not only walk out to in our yard, but bend up and down to obtain and freeze for insurance (or so I thought!) 2 nights ago! Wow. You wouldn't believe how LOUD and scary this hail was! This hail did even more damage than the previous golf ball sized hail from two weeks ago! So, I knew I needed to collect as many as possible before the rain started pouring down and meeeellllted them like the Witch in Oz!Weather, unless the pressure is high, is my enemy at this time. I was already crying because of the tremendous pain where they'd put in the hardware in my back when the hail started! And was barely able to walk on my feet because of the nerve damage :( Thinking I might have to crawl back with the hail (ahh!) I just tucked them in the front of my shirt and prayed that it wouldn't hit me in the head on the way back! Our neighbors just a few miles away were pummeled with softball sized hail! Can you imagine? They have pictures of hail balls embedded in their ceiling--the balls had actually come through their roof and stuck in their ceiling stucco! We're just praying that no more "graduated" hail visits our home this Spring since our insurance company of 25 years has denied our extra claims from this second hail round...what a Spring!

I wanted to spotlight this Classic--the story is very good, and the stars are definitely worth your viewing! This is a vibrant, young Gloria Swanson! If any of you are like me, you may have a personal dislike (is that the word?) for Gloria Swanson because of her creepy performance in "Sunset Boulevard". Rest assured this is NOT "Norma Desmond". Gloria Swanson is young here, and such a wonderful actress! You really see her talent, gifting (I also think some genuine sweetness comes through) in this Classic, called, "Indiscreet". Please give it a viewing. I think you'll see why she was so popular as an actress, and so beloved off screen. This movie, "Indiscreet" is what thoroughly changed my mind about Gloria Swanson!
