In the US, nearly 30,000 wildfires ignited this spring, the highest number in almost two decades. By the 4th of July, the amount of land burned in 2026 was already up 77% compared with the same time last year. Meanwhile, Europe has experienced more than double its average number of wildfires. Bellingcat has been using open source research tools to assess the scale and impact of wildfires for some time. In this video, you'll learn how Bellingcat monitors wildfires using free online resources- from tracking the first reports in real time to assessing damage after the flames are out.

The footage shows an agent wearing a black beanie step behind Pretti. His right arm then appears to recoil at the same time the first shot is heard. The movement seen in the agent’s arm when the first shot is heard in the footage is similar to the recoil seen in his arm in the next three shots, where he can be clearly seen firing. As previously reported we did not find any evidence Pretti’s gun fired. CBS News has also reported that a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) review for Congress of the shooting states that Pretti’s gun wasn’t fired and confirmed two agents fired their guns. cbsnews.com/news/two-federal-agents-fired-their-weapons-during-alex-pretti-shooting-report-congress-says The agent who appeared to initiate the altercation with Pretti, and fires the fifth shot, can also be seen in footage wearing a bodycam. A DHS statement claimed “an individual approached US Border Patrol officers” with “a handgun”.
A Bellingcat analysis of the footage appears to show that a gun was taken away from where Pretti was situated by an agent just before the first shot was fired.
The gun taken by the agent appears to match the general appearance of the firearm shared online by DHS, and which they said was Pretti’s. This agent’s back is turned from the scene with the gun in his hand when the first shot occurs.

The largest aid flotilla in history has been attacked twice in two days whilst in port in Tunisia. A remnant left over from the second attack on the flotilla on September 9th, provides further visual confirmation that both attacks were from above, likely by drone, using a thermite or a smoke grenade combined with an incendiary composition, consistent with ones used by the U.S, Ukrainian, and Israeli military.
