Home Movie of the Filming of Death of Ocean View Park Video Bill 2021-01-27 | This is some Super 8mm home movie footage I shot of the filming of the ABC made for TV movie "Death of Ocean View Park" in June 1979. The amusement park was used as the filming site for the movie. Parts of the park, especially the roller coaster, were destroyed for the disaster movie. The movie starred Mike Connors, Martin Landau, Diana Canova, Mare Winningham, and several other stars of the time. The majority of the movie was shot in Norfolk, Virginia, with some footage shot in Virginia Beach. The park was also used in the 1977 movie "Roller Coaster". There are several shots of explosions at the roller coaster. The large one was supposed to bring down the entire end of the roller coaster, but it did not. Two more explosions at that end were tried (not seen in this film). The second failed as well, but the third was finally successful, only because they attached a Caterpillar tractor to the roller coaster structure and pulled it down in conjunction with the explosion. Mike Connors can be seen in a brief clip of this film climbing the roller coaster.See also: youtu.be/nL5sKIpurNA

This was the last week in operation for the park in the 1978 season. It was ultimately the last year in operation as it closed for good after the 1978 season. The amusement park was used as the filming site in the summer of 1979 for the ABC made for TV movie "Death of Ocean View Park". Parts of the park, especially the roller coaster, were destroyed for the disaster movie. The movie starred Mike Connors, Martin Landau, Diana Canova, Mare Winningham, and several other stars of the time. The majority of the movie was shot in Norfolk, Virginia, with some footage shot in Virginia Beach. The park was also used in 1977 movie "Roller Coaster". A roller coaster car from that movie can be seen above the entrance, in the opening shot.
