6 things you need to know about HydroxychloroquinePOLITICO2020-04-08 | The Trump administration is pushing ahead with a plan to “surge” the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine to coronavirus hot zones around the country — even though there is little evidence that the treatment is effective, and ample proof that it can harm some patients.

Mike Lawler is set to introduce a sweeping affordable housing plan today, as the swing seat Republican and his party look to address one of the most pressing economic policy concerns of this year’s elections.
POLITICO Pro got an early look at the 209-page bill, which Lawler plans to introduce today at an event in Rockland County.
IT’S AWKWARD BUT IT’S FOR CHARITY: The annual Al Smith dinner in Manhattan has traditionally been a bipartisan affair intended to put charities before politics.
And while it featured honored guests of both parties Thursday, the atmosphere was tense.
Not just because former President Donald Trump attended while Vice President Kamala Harris participated via prerecorded remarks, but because Mayor Eric Adams’ indictment was fresh comic fodder.
“I’ve never met a person who’s a vegan who liked Turkey so much,” Trump said of Adams, who was seated at the dais of dignitaries. (It’s not a new joke, but it’s a decent joke.)
The Republican nominee for president has repeatedly said he believes he and the Democratic mayor are simpatico. Thursday was no different.

But first, she had to get a word in edgewise.
The half-hour interview with anchor Bret Baier was contentious from the start and stayed that way throughout. He recycled Republican talking points into accusations and frequently interrupted the vice president — the two talking over each other at times.

House and Senate candidates are obviously focusing on local issues in most races (we see you, Alaska Fisheries Debate), but there are a few common threads clearly dominating the election cycle. The top three won’t surprise you: the economy, abortion and the border.
Let’s zero in on the latter two, and another we noticed cropping up:
BORDER SECURITY AND IMMIGRATION: Candidates in districts that aren’t remotely close to the Rio Grande River are frequently talking about how to tackle border problems in debates. The broad strokes should sound familiar: Republicans are hammering Democrats on the Biden administration’s handling of the border, and Democrats are scolding Republicans for tanking a bipartisan border security deal in the Senate early this year.

Byron Donalds said Tuesday that “we’re not going to have” the U.S. military deployed inside the country, a break with former President Donald Trump’s suggestion over the weekend that troops might be needed to deal with “radical left lunatics” and “the enemy from within.”
Donalds (Fla.), an ally of the former president and 2024 GOP nominee said "Obviously we don't want to have the United States military, we're not going to have that, be deployed in the United States.”
"I think the bigger problem is the people from within. We have some very bad people, some sick people, radical-left lunatics," Trump said to Bartiromo on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures." "It should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard or if really necessary by the military." (edited)
Midway through her stump speech, the vice president asked to “roll the tape” on short videos of Trump, featuring several recent clips of the former president speaking about “enemies from within,” suggesting in a Fox News interview that the military could be deployed on Election Day, and speaking in Erie just weeks earlier when he suggested “one rough hour” of policing as an antidote to crime.
